WWW Wednesday – 9/12/18

WWW New

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

I’m actually really excited, because I am reading again, which I had almost completely stopped doing for a while. Didn’t realize how much I had missed it.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading two books, although only one actively. I’ve been reading 18 Thoughts by Jamie Ayres on my Kindle app, trying to actually get through all the e-books I have on there. This one is actually the third in a trilogy. I got the first book, 18 Things, on BookBub a long time ago and finally read it (basically picked a book on my account at random). If I had to categorize these books, I would call them . . . Christian fantasy? Like with God and angels? Except the first book isn’t really? It’s complicated. I’m going to write a review of the whole series when I’m done with them.

Also currently reading Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro. I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages, even pre-ordered it so I would get it as soon as possible . . . and then my reading slump happened. I tried to make this the book that would drag me out of it, but it just didn’t for some reason. Not because it’s bad! I really like the characters and the story (although it’s a tough story). And I absolutely love Mark, and always have (visit his website, MarkReads, and you will love him too). I’m hoping now that I’m reading more again, I can finish it.

What did you recently finish?

The book that finally got me out of my reading slump was Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson. This book was so good and just what I needed when I needed it. Many people will know Jenny as The Bloggess, so if you’ve frequented her website, you will know what you are in for with her books. She writes about dealing with depression and anxiety, two things that I have been struggling with, in such a way that just makes you feel better. Less alone. She doesn’t pull any punches, freely admits that she is a weird person who doesn’t always deal with things the best way, but all of that is okay. A good friend of mine lent me this book, knowing a bit about what I was going through, and it was the absolute best thing.

I also recently finished The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore. I freely admit that this is not the type of book I usually read. I hardly ever read non-fiction, and usually not something this dark and serious. The reason I picked it up was because it was one of the group reads over at the Seasonal Reading Challenge. I don’t usually read along with them for their group reads, but figured I’d try to track down one of the three books they had picked for the Fall challenge. Of the three, this one was the one I could borrow from my library in e-book format. It is a hard book to read, but also in a way reads very easily? If that makes sense? The subject matter is very serious and dark, but also very engaging and inspiring. More details when I post an actual review.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Unless I am working on a series, I am never completely sure of the answer to this question. I am like a dog, distracted by anything and everything (SQUIRREL!). I do know for sure that I will be reading Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson. The same friend who let me borrow Furiously Happy said that I had to read this one as well. She actually said that the enjoyed Let’s Pretend even more, which makes me even more excited to read it.

So that’s what’s on my reading plate this week? Is anyone else out there reading something exciting? My TBR pile is the size of a small mountain range, but I’m always looking to add to it!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

What are you currently reading?

Currently reading Blood Games by Chloe Neill, book 10 in the Chicagoland Vampires series. I swear I am going to finish this series, and after this, I will only have three books left!

Also technically still reading Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro, although I’ve come to a standstill with it. Not because it isn’t good, but because it is too much like real events. Right now, I need escapism. Once I finish the Chloe Neill books, I will go back to it in earnest.

What did you recently finish reading?

Finished Wild Things by Chloe Neill. My answers will be fairly repetitive until this book series is finished, but hey, at least I’ll be able to cross something off my list!

What do you think you’ll read next?

The next three Chicagoland books are Dark Debt, Midnight Markedand Blade Bound. Once I finish those, then I will most likely start back over on Anger is a Gift so I can write up a review.

WWW New

Today is another two-for on the blog today, just because I love these two particular features. They are fun and I always enjoy seeing what other people are posting.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

I am very excited by this book – Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro. I’ve mentioned many times on this blog that I enjoy the website Mark Reads. Well, after many years of reviewing books a chapter at a time, turns out Mark has written his own novel. And it’s REALLY GOOD! I’ve only made it half-way through so far – unfortunately it has been a victim of my reading slump – but I am getting back to it now.

Also reading Wild Things by Chloe Neill, the 9th book in the Chicagoland Vampires series. According to GoodReads, I had read this one before, but I don’t remember much about it. In any case, I am trying to finally finish this series this year, which would mean re-reading it anyway.

What did you recently finish reading?

Finished reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett last night. Another re-read, but so, so very good. And by coincidence, I was re-reading it in order to read along with Mark’s reviews over at Mark Reads. I think I read it with him the first time too, but I’ve been trying to catch up on all the books he’s reviewed, which has meant going back in time and revisiting some things.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The only one I know definitively I’ll be reading next is the next Chicagoland Vampires book, Blood GamesAccording to GoodReads (because I really can’t keep track of this stuff on my own), this is the last book of the series that I read last time, so anything after that is going to be brand new. There are 13 books, so I still have a handful to go before actually finishing the series, but I’m gonna do it! I might just binge those until I’m done – they are really fun to read, and then I’ll be able to cross off a series off my list.

WWW New

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

I just started Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Not much to say about it so far – I need to get more into it to have a firmer opinion. This book seemed to be everywhere when I first heard of it. I’ve also had friends who have read this series and loved it. So I had to pick it up. Also still reading A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin as my bedtime book.

What did you recently finish reading?

Just finished Want by Cindy Pon. I have mixed feelings about it, to be honest. I need to figure out what I thought about it before I write a review.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My current plan is to read Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard next, since it’s the next book in the series and I don’t want to leave another series unfinished.

WWW Wednesday – November 22, 2017

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at “Taking on a World of Words.” Three questions, three answers. Go!

What did you recently finish reading?

Right after my WWW post last week, I finished Turtles All the Way Down by John Green. All I can say is WOW! I also finished Marionette by Anya Allyn, the third book in the Dark Carousel series. I also finished A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. I guess you can say that I’m trying to make up for lost time. Got a good deal of reading done over the past week, so that’s good!

What are you currently reading?

Currently reading Music Box by Anya Allyn, as well as A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I think that I will be reading Want by Cindy Pon. I was going to start it this week, but decided to try and finish the Dark Carousel books first. I’ll also continue with the Song of Ice and Fire series, although it will probably take me a while to finish A Storm of Swords. Those are some big books!

WWW Wednesday – November 15, 2017

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at “Taking On a World of Words.” Three questions, three answers. Go!

What did you recently finish reading?

According to GoodReads (and yes, I had to look it up), the last book that I finished was Armada by Ernest Cline. I haven’t finished a book since late September. Man, that’s sad. This was a decent read. I will try to get a review up this week.

What are you currently reading?

I have a few things that I’m working on at the moment. One current read is Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, which you probably saw from my teaser yesterday. I am also reading A Clash of Kings, the second book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. I had been wanting to re-read this series, so they have become my read-before-bed books. Also, according to GoodReads, I am currently reading Marionette by Anya Allyn, the third book in her Dollhouse series. It has been a while since I’ve read it, so I might need to start over.

What do you think you’ll read next?

That’s a good question. I got a couple new books at YALLFest, and I also still have a bunch of other books, both physical and ebook copies, that I haven’t read yet. Plus, going to YALLFest always makes me want to look up the authors there and read all their stuff. Plus, I still want to try and finish some series that I started way back when for my yearly challenge. So really, it could be anything at this point. Who knows.

WWW Wednesday – March 8, 2017

WWW New

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

So many things at the moment! Still working through The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien – this is my bedtime book. Also started Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, which I am very much enjoying. Some terrific world building in those books! I’m reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke for the Seasonal Reading Challenge book for Spring. This is a re-read for me and I love this book – it’s a modern book that reads like something from the 1800s.

What have you recently finished?

I finished RoseBlood by A.G. Howard, and boy do I have some opinions! A review will be coming soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Definitely Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo, the last of the Grisha trilogy. I really want to see how this pans out. After that, I would probably look to work on finishing another series, maybe the Blackcoat Rebellion trilogy by Aimee Carter?

WWW Wednesday – March 1, 2017

WWW New

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a Word of Words. Yes folks, it’s already March! Can’t believe how fast this year is already going. Missed a few days of blogging because I had the plague. Thankfully, I’m feeling much better now. On with the show!

What are you currently reading?

Started up with The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien last night. This one will take a while, so I’m just going to savor it. I also need to watch The Two Towers movie – I haven’t done that since finishing the book.

Also got quite a bit of progress on RoseBlood by A.G. Howard. I’m . . . well . . . I’m still on the fence on this one. It’s a bit strange and I don’t know how I feel about it yet. It’s definitely caught my interest, so I will keep reading to the end. I want to see where she’s going with this.

Still also reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

What did you recently finish reading?

Nothing new to report here. The last thing I finished was The Two Towers and haven’t finished anything else since then.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Still planning on reading Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo to finish this series.

That’s my status for the week. Please leave your WWW in comments!

WWW Wednesday – February 22, 2017

WWW New

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

What are you currently reading?

This answer has only changed slightly since last week. I read a bit more in RoseBlood by A.G. Howard, which has been a bit odd so far. This is the one that was inspired by the Phantom of the Opera, if you remember. Well, I am very protective of my Phantom stories, more so than any other fandom, so it’s been a bit weird seeing such a different take on it. I’m still not sure what I think, although I’m not even half way in yet. So we’ll see.

Also working on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, although I missed posting about it this Monday. Might try to do that tomorrow.

You might notice something missing from this part. That’s because . . .

What did you recently finish reading?

I finally finished reading The Two Towers!! And I mean just finished, because I literally closed the book about ten minutes ago. I waited to make this post so that I could say that I finished it instead of continuing to plod through it. So yay!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Definitely will be reading The Return of the King, because of course. After that, I think I will stop reading with Mark Reads just for a little while and start working on some of the series I need to try and complete. I challenged myself to complete five of them from my list, so I should probably think about that. To that end, I will say that I will also read Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, book #2 in The Grisha series. I read the first book, Shadow and Bone, at the end of last year, although it was during my blogging slump, so I never actually reviewed it. I should probably do that at some point.

WWW Wednesday – February 15, 2017

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

Still working through The Two Towers. It’s been my bedtime book, just because I find it very flowing and relaxing. I am also reading RoseBlood by A.G. Howard. I loved her Alice in Wonderland series (Splintered), and this new book is inspired by the Phantom of the Opera.

What did you recently finish reading?

Tonight I finished The Circle by David Eggers. Got this one through my local library’s digital collection, but first heard about it after seeing a trailer online for the upcoming movie staring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. It looked interesting and, well, let’s just say that I finished it in less than a day’s time.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Return of the King, eventually. Other than that, I have no firm plans. I have so many books on my TBR, I’m almost paralyzed by it. So many too choose from!! Can’t decide!! Maybe I’ll set up a poll and let you guys pick for me.
