Review
This book won the GoodReads Choice Award last year for Best Mystery/Thriller and, oh boy, can I see why. This book was amazing and genuinely kept me on the edge of my seat. There’s a reason why I devoured it in only two days (well, that and I was stuck at the car mechanic for a long time, but still – best way to use that time!)
Murder mysteries are nothing new. Having people determined to solve them is also nothing new. But having the person solving the mystery be the person who was murdered? I’ve never seen that before. It raises the stakes in such a new and visceral way. Jet is even given the option to try for surgery that has a tiny sliver of a chance to save her life, but will most likely end up killing her faster. She opts out of that to try and bring her murderer to justice. I gotta say, that is badass!
There are twists and turns galore in this one. I think at one point, I pretty much suspected everyone except Jet. Her parents are well off and there are plenty of people that don’t like them very much. Jet has a complicated relationship with them, which adds an extra layer of tension. There’s an ex-boyfriend hanging around that could potentially be involved. There are so many directions that this investigation could go, all the while having a ticking time bomb in Jet’s brain. Masterfully done.
I literally could not put this book down. It was so good.
