This week’s teaser comes from The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

Simon knows it has been hours. He is tired and hungry and recalls that he’d packed food for this purpose and left his bag in the cottage and brought a broom instead which now seems impractical. He doesn’t believe Lenore’s claim that so much time has passed but she has not returned and now he is half asleep and her book is quite strange and he is not certain he likes any of this.

I am loving this book so far, although a reading slump keeps looking at me from the other side of the room. It comes with the chronic fatigue. Much easier to sleep than read nowadays.

Ten Books I Enjoyed but Rarely Talk About

This is a weird topic for a book blogger, since I talk about the books I read all the time. This took some digging around in my GoodReads shelves, but here are ten books that I love but don’t mention much.

1. Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh – Allie Brosh is a visionary. I always loved her web cartoon of the same name but having it in book form is so much better. It will make you laugh, make you cry, make you think, and make you laugh again. 
2. Comes the Night  by Norah Wilson and Heather Doherty – This series is one that I need to finish! I read the first three books and boy did it end on a cliffhanger!
3. Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham – I already wanted to love this book because I’m such a big Gilmore Girls fan and it didn’t disappoint.
4. Mosquitoland by David Arnold – This is one of those books that I almost read straight through in one setting. It was that good.
5. The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Matthieu – Another read-in-one-sitting book. It was captivating and heartbreaking and I absolutely had to find out Alice’s story.
6. 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson – I was lucky enough to get to meet Maureen once at a book signing and she is so delightful. Also delightful is this book, which was one of the first of her books that I read. Makes you want to run away and get lost in Europe.
7. The Inheritor by Marion Zimmer Bradley – Ugh, this book is so spooky and scary and wonderful! Everyone knows Bradley for her Arthurian stories, but this one is more modern and completely draws you in.
8. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro – I know I’ve talked about this one in the past, but it’s been a while. Such a good book. It’s a slow burn, but the writing is so beautiful, the story complex yet simple, and the ending tragically beautiful.
9. The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga – This one definitely hasn’t been mentioned much here because I think I first reviewed it on my old blog, which was a long time ago! I loved reading this book and immersing myself in a culture that is so different from my own.
10. The Rules for Disappearing by Ashley Elston – Another one-sitting book, or pretty darn close. Plus I was absolutely fascinated with the mystery of why they were in the witness protection program.
