Okay folks. I need some help. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am starting back up on a writing project I began during last year’s NaNoWriMo. Since I know several people who follow my blog are also writers, and let’s face it, you are a well-read bunch, I would like to ask for some advice.
I am still developing my main antagonist for my story. I have a few ideas. Due to the current political atmosphere, I’m thinking that a smarmy politician might work. They would need to be a leader, someone currently in power that needs to eventually be brought down. But I don’t just want a transparent, one dimensional villain. I want something with a bit more depth.
And so I turn to you, dear readers. In comments, please tell me about your favorite bad guys and what makes you like them so much. What made them powerful and what led to their ultimate demise. I would greatly appreciate it. 🙂

Life With No Plot 
He’s not on books, but Loki was a pretty great three dimensional villain. : ) Also, prince of thorns has a villain for hero, but not like an anti-hero, a proper, fucked up villain. So that’s pretty cool.
I’ve got 2 recently favourite villains, but they are also heroes of the story. I’m talking about Otto and Esmeralda from Otto Von Trapezoid and the Empress of Thieves. They are simply awesome 😀
For me, the best bad guys aren’t just one-dimensional “nasty” or “evil”. While they can be ruthless and frightening, they are also clever, witty and while we dislike them, we should respect them. So whatever this politician’s agenda is, perhaps they can argue they’re committing dastardly deeds for the greater good (end justifying nasty means and all that?). Perhaps they came to power by being the only person who could take control of a particularly turbulent situation, restoring order in a time of chaos but since then they’ve started to abuse their power?
