Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday for 7/21/15

Teaser Tuesday NewTeaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

And I wouldn’t go looking for him even if I knew how, because there’s a big difference between risky and dangerous. Between determined and stupid.

With All My Soul by Rachel Vincent

This is the last book in the Soul Screamers series and I’ve really enjoyed them. Looking forward to seeing how it ends.

Please leave your teasers in comments!

Added to GoodReads – 7/20/15

goodreadsHappy Monday everyone! It’s been a bit of a slow week adding books to my GoodReads TBR list, but that’s probably not a bad thing. That list is starting to get out of hand. Here we go!

  • The Looking Glass House by Vanessa Tait – I wish I could remember where I saw this one. I know it was a link on Facebook, which means it might have been from Book Riot or Buzzfeed or one of those. Y’all know I love Alice in Wonderland stories, but this one is written by a great-great-granddaughter of Alice Liddell. I’m there!
  • The Key by Jennifer Anne Davis – This one was from BookBub, which I adore, although I’ve started getting less from them lately. I think it might just be book overload. This one sounds pretty good though. The first in a trilogy, it’s more of a high fantasy YA book, which should be fun. And the cover is really pretty too.

Have you found any good books lately? Recommend them in comments!

WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday for 7/15/15

WWW NewWWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

Still working on My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent. I’m maybe half way through that one. Almost finished with Deadline by Mira Grant. Just started Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan. I think I’m trying to claw my way out of the reading slump by reading as many books as possible.

What did you recently finish reading?

Just finished my re-read of Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, hence my continuation with reading Hold Me Closer. It’s not a sequel, but more of a companion book, the play within a play sort of.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Definitely Blackout by Mira Grant. That’s a given. Also My Soul To Steal by Rachel Vincent, the next book in that series. I think I’m going to focus on finishing up Soul Screamers for a while, and then maybe jump back into the Five Hundred Kingdoms books by Mercedes Lackey. That’s the current plan. It will change.

“We’re all hauntings waiting to happen, Shaun. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you’ll get past wondering when our normal lives will be starting up again.”

Deadline by Mira Grant

I loved this line – it’s such a poetic sentiment in a book that is full of action and zombies and suspense.

toptentuesday2Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic:

Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession

I decided to break this into two parts: one for the physical books (or “dead tree copies” as my friend Jess calls them), and one for the ebooks that I’ve gotten. I get a lot of ebooks as a rule because of BookBub. If you haven’t checked out BookBub yet, you need to. You’ll thank me later.

First, the physical books:

  1. Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan
  2. The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

I had mentioned these two a while back. I got them while browsing through Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago.

Now, the ebooks:

  1. Anathema by Megg Jensen (first book in the Cloud Prophet trilogy)
  2. UnEnchanted by Chanda Hahn (book one in the An Unfortunate Fairy Tale series)
  3. Sara’s Game by Ernie Lindsey
  4. The Woodlands by Lauren Nicolle Taylor (book one in The Woodlands series)
  5. The Annihilation of Foreverland by Tony Bertauski (book one in the Foreverland series)
  6. All the Blue-Eyed Angels by Jen Blood (book one in the Erin Solomon Mystery series)
  7. Torch Song by Shelley Singer (book one in the Blackjack series)
  8. Branded by Keary Taylor (book one in the Fall of Angels series)

Best part about all of these – I got them all for free. Such is the magic of BookBub. 🙂

Please leave your teasers and/or top tens in comments!

Added to GoodReads – 7/13

goodreadsGood morning and Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all have a nice week ahead! Here are the latest books I’ve added to my GoodReads TBR list:

  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness – I saw this book on a WWW Wednesday post by Claire over at Art and Soul. She was absolutely raving about it, so I figured it must be a good read. You can check out her full review here.
  • Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier – This is another one I found on WWW Wednesday, this time from Yvo at It’s All About Books. She hasn’t read it yet, but I just fell in love with the cover art.
  • Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford – We have probably by now established that WWW Wednesdays are dangerous days for my TBR list! I found this one on our host’s post, Sam at Taking On a World of Words. She is reading this one right now and, I have to say, I absolutely love this title.

Books I've Read

Book Review: Never Let Me Go

never let me goTitle: Never Let Me Go

Author: Kazuo Ishiguro

Series: none

Edition: Hardcover

Blurb: As children, Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy were students at Hailsham, an exclusive boarding school secluded in the English countryside. It was a place of mercurial cliques and mysterious rules where teachers were constantly reminding their charges of how special they were. Now, years later, Kathy is a young woman. Ruth and Tommy have reentered her life, and for the first time she is beginning to look back at their shared past and understand just what it is that makes them special–and how that gift will shape the rest of their time together.

This is going to be a hard review to write for two reasons. One, it will be very hard to talk about this book without spoiling it, which I desperately don’t want to do. Two, it’s actually really hard to put into words how this book made me feel. It’s a complicated book, but that’s why I love it so much.

At first it seems like a simple memoir. When Kathy talks about Hailsham, it seems like a wonderful place. I wanted to go there. As you start to put together the truth about Hailsham and just who/what Kathy is, the story takes a turn that, for me at least, was completely shocking. Again, I can’t go into detail without spoiling the heck out of it, but trust me, it makes you feel all the feels.

The story is complex, but the writing style is very calming to me for some reason. Despite the subject matter (which is a little disturbing), it’s a very relaxing read, at least until you get towards the end.

Above all, this is a story about friendship, between the complicated friendship between Kathy and Ruth, and the much simpler friendship between Kathy and Tommy, which eventually turns to love. By the end of their story, you feel both happy and sad for them.

As I said, both here and several other times on this blog, I dearly, dearly love this book. It may not be for everyone, but I highly recommend that everyone read it.

WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday for 7/8/15

WWW NewWWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Go!

What are you currently reading?

Several things at the moment. Working on My Soul To Save by Rachel Vincent, book two in the Soul Screamers series. I’m also working on two re-reads: Deadline by Mira Grant (book two in the Newsflesh trilogy) and Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan.

What did you recently finish reading?

I think I most recently finished Feed by Mira Grant, the first Newsflesh book. I’ve been enjoying reading these again, and the ending of Feed is just as shocking the second time around as it was the first time. That is really hard to do, so bravo Mira Grant!

What do you think you’ll read next?

I never know for sure, but y’all know that by now. Probably the third books in both Soul Screamers and Newsflesh, just to continue the series. I also would like to read Hold Me Closer: the Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan, since it’s a companion book to Will Grayson Will Grayson.

There are my answers for the week! Please leave yours in comments!
