Booking Through Thursday – January 8th

Decided to try out a new meme this week, just to see if Iike it. 🙂 Booking Through Thursday is a weekly blog with a different bookish topic every week. This week’s topic: Weeding.

Do you ever weed out unwanted books from your library? And if so, what do you do with them?

I don’t do this as much as I should. I’m a bit of a pack rat when it comes to books. Just ask my family, they’ll tell you. I have been making more of an effort to clear out books that I just don’t read any more, mostly because I need the shelf space! I have a fairly good stack of books that I’ve already weeded out for the new year, which is helpful.

As far as what I do with them, I usually take them to our local used bookstore. They have a really good trade in system, which gives me store credit for the books they take. Of course, this does nothing for my efforts in clearing my bookshelves, since I usually turn around and buy more books, but it’s fun. If they can’t take the books, then I usually donate them to Goodwill. I have also donated them to our local library in the past.

What about you? Anyone else have suggestions for what to do with their weeded out books? Please leave responses in comments!

  1. I take any physical books that I am done with to our local library.

    • The library around here won’t always take them, unfortunately. They are very picky on what they will accept. Goodwill will always take them though. Some of the Goodwill stores around here have awesome book sections.

  2. I’m with you. The basement is full of boxes of books that have been weeded off my shelves but the pack rat in me keeps saying I might read again one day. The ones that do leave the house usually end up with younger cousins or the salvation army.

  3. I give some away. I take them to my used bookstore as well. If you have a Hastings, they’ll give you store credit. It’s awesome. I’ve finally gotten to the point that I only keep books I love. Here my answer: 2 Kids and Tired Books BTT

    • It’s a good idea, but the problem is that I love them all! Getting the Kindle has helped somewhat, since that takes up virtually no space and I can have a ton of books on there, but still, bookshelf space is at a premium in my house! I don’t think we have a Hastings here though.
