Review
I know it’s still a little early to make this distinction, but this might end up being one of my favorite reads of the whole year. I had been interested in this one for a while, mostly because I absolutely love the title, but didn’t have a chance to read it until it appeared as part of one of the GoodReads challenges. It’s on the bigger side, well over 500 pages, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like it at all. I couldn’t wait to keep reading this one.
It was so cool to see the stories of these three women and how they slowly came together over the course of time. Naturally, because of being immortal vamps, time means something completely different to them. Just because Maria came from the 1500s, it doesn’t mean she isn’t part of Charlotte’s story in the 1800s. I loved how each of these three women were written. It was a brilliant character study with some vampire lore thrown in.
And trust me, these are legit scary vampires. We also get to see vampires in different stages of their lives (unlives?) – from Alice, a freshly reborn vampire trying to figure out what happened, to Maria, a much older vampire who has become more impulsive and unrestrained throughout the centuries. This book is dark and bloody and brutal and perfect for a vampire story.
