Review
This was a very interesting read. I’ve read one of Harrow’s books in the past, The Ten Thousand Doors of January, and really enjoyed it so I had high expectations with this one.
This story moves through two different time lines – the medieval story of Sir Una and the modern story of Owen. Owen is a failing scholar who is obsessed with Una’s story. His character is an absolute sweetheart, so in love with this woman and, once he discovers the way back to Una’s time period, would do absolutely anything for her. Una is a bit more headstrong and stubborn, as you would expect of a woman living as a medieval knight, but her love for Owen and her determination to find him throughout time was a beautiful story to read.
The prose in this book was lovely. If I had one quibble about it, it was that the beginning of the book felt very slow and a little plodding. Once everything really started to get going, then I couldn’t put it down, but it took until nearly the halfway point of the book for that to happen. That was a little disappointing, but honestly, the payoff at the end of the book and the TWIST . . . it was worth the wait.
