Teasers & Top Tens – May 6, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Funny Story by Emily Henry.

This is my next GoodReads Award winning book and I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. A sweet little rom-com of a book, which then drops these truths on you, like BAM. Definitely something to take to heart.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:

Ten Authors Who Live/Lived In My State

I had to go look this up since I never really pay attention to where my authors live. I live in the state of North Carolina, which for any non U.S. folks, is on the east coast, sort of around the middle. I started going through the authors that I’ve read so far this year and worked my way backwards to find my fellow Tarheels and here’s who I’ve found.

  1. Maya Angelou (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and many, many others) lived in Winston-Salem (my hometown!) and taught at Wake Forest University.
  2. Clyde Edgerton (The Floatplane Notebooks, Where Trouble Sleeps) lives in Durham, is an alumni of UNC-Chapel Hill and was a professor at UNC-Wilmington.
  3. Zelda Fitzgerald spent summers in Saluda as a child and died in Asheville.
  4. Kirsten Miller (The Change) grew up in “a small town in the mountains of North Carolina.”
  5. Craig Nova (The Good Son and several award winning short stories) lives in Greensboro and was one of my professors at UNC-Greensboro.
  6. Stephanie Perkins (Anna and the French Kiss) lives in “the mountains of North Carolina.”
  7. David Sedaris (The Santaland Diaries) grew up in the Raleigh area.
  8. Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook and many others) lives in New Bern.
  9. Meagan Spooner (co-author of the Starbound series) lives in Asheville.
  10. Cindy Williams Chima (The Demon King) lives in North Carolina.

  4. Great list! Love Stephanie Perkins. I think Sarah Dessen also lives in North Carolina (Chapel Hill) – for some reason that always sticks out in my mind 🙂
