WWW Wednesday – January 3, 2024

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On A World Of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

What did you recently finish reading?

Since last week, I finished both of my reads. First, I finished Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. This is the second book in The Empyrean series, the sequel to Fourth Wing, and I need the next book RIGHT NOW! Holy hell, that was a cliffhanger! I also finished two audiobooks, my rereads of 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson and Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. This made me smile for a few reasons. First, I hadn’t read these books in a while and it was nice to sink back into some relaxing reads. Second, it reminded me of when, back in the olden days, I got to meet both of these authors at a signing event in Raleigh. I’ve been really enjoying getting into audiobooks for the first time, and I have noticed that I prefer some narrators over others. I’m guessing I will start having favorites after a while. Does that happen with anyone else?

What are you currently reading?

I started reading The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco, book #2 in The Bone Witch series on January 1st as my first book of the year. I’ve been wanting to dive into it ever since finishing The Bone Witch earlier in December, but with the Reindeer Readathon, I didn’t have a chance to. I am definitely enjoying it so far. I’m also doing another reread with an audiobook and listening to The Grace Year by Kim Liggett. I read this one the year it came out (2019) but hadn’t had a chance to explore it again. The narrator for the audiobook, Emily Shaffer, has been excellent so far. It’s such a haunting book to begin with and she has been conveying that really well.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I know for sure that I will be reading The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco. This is the third and final book in The Bone Witch series and I really want to finish this one. After that, I’m not sure yet. I need to think about a book to start off my Beat the Backlist challenge and I’ll probably need a new audiobook as well. I have a few holds at my library for some, so it may just depend on what comes available first.

That’s my reading for the week! Please leave your WWW in comments!

  1. I’ve had Anna and the French Kiss on my list sooo long. It’s not 100% my usual sort of read, but it came highly recommended, so I really want to give it a try… eventually. XD

I really need to get round to Fourth Wing, too. Seems like everyone’s been talking about it, and I’m getting really curious.

  2. I have The Bone Witch series and still haven’t read it. I sooo miss how many book signings there used to be! Have a great week!

    • There was an independent bookstore that was about an hour away from my house that always had events, even drew in some fairly big names. I still get their newsletter and they don’t have nearly as many events now. It’s sad.

      • Yeah, there’s one about 45 minutes away that had a bunch. I met a few authors there! They don’t offer much at all. They all want to do virtual and that’s just not the same.
