Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser comes from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin.
Rachel held out the map she’d pulled from the Internet, which showed a detailed blueprint of the facility. It was huge, but navigable if you had enough time. The plan was to enter through the cellar door, make our way through the basement storage area, and climb up to the main level, which would bring us to the industrial kitchen. Then, another staircase would lead us to the patient and treatment rooms in the children’s wing.
They are getting into things that they shouldn’t and there will be severe consequences. Not that they know that yet.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:
Top Ten Indie/Self-Published Books
I’ll be honest – I don’t usually pay much attention to the publisher when it comes to what I’m reading. There were several books on my GoodReads that I didn’t realize were either indie or self-pub and a couple that I thought were indie that were actually published by a large publishing house. Like I said, I’m pretty clueless, but here are ten books that I’ve read over the past few years that I really enjoyed.
- Dollhouse by Anya Allyn
- Deep Blue Secret by Christie Anderson
- 18 Things by Jamie Ayers
- Crow Flight by Susan Cunningham
- Exalted by Tara Elizabeth
- The Doorknob Society by M.J. Fletcher
- Silken Scales by Alex Hayes
- Magic of Thieves by C. Greenwood
- The Shadow Watch by S.A. Klopfenstein
- Division of the Marked by March McCarron
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

I hadn’t heard of any of these authors. It’s cool when that happens. 🙂
My post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-self-published-books-i-plan-to-review/
They were all really good reads! Definitely check them out!
The Doorknob Society by M.J. Fletcher is an interesting book title!! I’m off to check it out!!
It’s the first in a series and was very enjoyable. 🙂
Yeah when it comes to books and what makes me want to read them, the publisher is usually the least important part, before I started blogging, I knew basically nothing about all the different publishers, though I’ve learned a lot in the past nine years!

And honestly, whenever you hear something about a publisher, it’s almost always something bad! Like the Harper Collins strike or something like that.
Exactly! Would rather live in blissful ignorance.
I haven’t heard of any of these authors. I’ve been saying that a lot today, which is why it’s great to have these kinds of topics!
Happy TTT!

I’ve read about a bunch of new ones this week, which is so fun!
Sounds like an adventure! Thanks for linking to the Purple Booker — I used to do TT back when it was at Should be Reading, and restarted doing it last year. Didn’t realize there were other people keeping the faith, so to speak. I let an AI do my randomizing today. 🙂
Yep! It’s here every week!
