Teasers & Top Tens – 9/24/19

tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from The Smallest Thing by Lisa Manterfield.

On the morning of my third funeral in as many weeks, a crowd gathers outside our small stone church, filling the forecourt and spilling out through the lych-gate and into the street. The mood is quiet and respectful, but underneath is an air of worry.

Something’s going on in this small town, and I need to know what it is!

TTT-NEW

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:

Top Ten Books On My Fall 2019 TBR

I am so glad it’s officially Fall, although it doesn’t quite feel like Fall yet. It’s my favorite time of year. While I don’t typically do a seasonal TBR (I’m nowhere near organized enough for that), these are books that I either have reviews coming up or just series that I know I will be continuing.

  1. The Athena Protocol by Shamim Sarif – Upcoming blog tour with FFBC. New author to me, which is always fun.
  2. Angel Mage by Garth Nix – Another upcoming tour with FFBC. I have read Nix’s Abhorsen series before and really enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to reading more of his work.
  3. The How and the Why by Cynthia Hand – Another upcoming tour with FFBC (they’ve been giving me a lot lately, which is awesome!) A more contemporary read, which I don’t do as much, so that’s cool.
  4. The Spectral City by Leanna Renee Hieber – I don’t know much about this book and wasn’t originally going to read it, until I realized . . .
  5. A Sanctuary of Spirits by Leanna Renee Hieber – This is the sequel to The Spectral City. It’s also a NetGalley ARC I got approved for. I didn’t realize it was a book #2 in a series when I requested it, but that’s fine. I just need to track down the other one!
  6. Siren Song by Alex Hayes – Another upcoming tour, this time with Xpresso. I’m glad they are letting me do this one since I was on the tour with the first two books of this series. Now I get to tour with book #3!
  7. A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir – This is book #3 in the An Ember in the Ashes series. I’m reading book #2 right now and definitely plan to keep going. Her books are so beautifully written!
  8. Secrets of the Dead by Becca Vincenza – This is book #2 in the Curse Breakers series. I read book #1, Art of Death, for one of my first blog tours. Now I want to see where this goes.
  9. Dance with Death by Becca Vincenza – Book #3 in the Curse Breaker series, which actually just came out this month. I really want to finish this series (as well as An Ember in the Ashes) so I don’t add to my “Complete the Series” list. I’m trying to get series OFF that list, not put more on!
  10. ?????? – I’m leaving this one up for grabs. There are a few tours I’ve signed up for and a few NetGalley ARCs I’ve requested, but nothing that’s been approved yet. We’ll see what happens.

Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!
