Doing a bit of tidying up on my blog today. I got my list of book reviews updated, as well as my 2013 reading challenge list. Let’s just say that I’m kicking butt this year. My goal was to read 70 books, and I’m already up to 65. Can I read five books in three and a half months? Um, have you been reading my blog?
I feel really good about that, so now I just need to work on some of the other reading goals I had for this year. Mostly this falls under completing series that I haven’t finished, which is a fairly hefty list. I’ll get there eventually, but there’s so many other shiny new books sitting on my desk!
Mostly today, I wanted to ask a few questions to my fellow book bloggers out there. I tend to get overly analytical about things (I’m sure you haven’t noticed) and I’m trying to figure out some ways to make blogging a bit easier. My schedule gets crazy, especially now that school has started, my writer’s group is getting more organized, and I’m singing with the Symphony again. Oh yeah, and I also have a family and a full time job. Why do I do this to myself?
Anyway, so here are the questions. They are pretty simple, so if you could take just a second and leave an answer or two, it would be muchly appreciated.
1. How often to you post to your blog? Daily, weekly, or whenever you feel like it?
2. What time of day do you usually post? I ask this because I am very weirdly tuned in to posting in the morning, and if I miss doing so in the morning, I don’t post at all. Yes, I know this sounds silly.
3. What sort of topics do you cover? I know many of us participate in weekly memes, like Top Ten Tuesday and WWW Wednesday, and most of us do book reviews as well, but what else do you like to talk about? Or do you just stick to those things alone?
4. How many other blogs do you follow on a regular basis? I try to keep up with the people who comment on my blog, but it’s hard. I end up following them, but then not making it back to read their stuff, unless it’s a meme post. That’s something I want to try and do better at.
Thank you so much for listening to me ramble. I really appreciate everyone who comes to visit my little corner of the Internet. 🙂

Hi Denise. Here are my responses:
1. I try to post during the week. Weekends are crazy for my family. I would love to post daily, however don’t want to just put up random content for the sake of posting.
2. I also tend to post in the morning. I too have a full time job and a very busy 9-year-old son so posting before the day officially begins works best for me. If my optimal time slips by, so does my posting!
3. I do participate in weekly memes along with my book reviews, however am starting to notice that traffic on those days is starting to lighten. My new meme ‘Thoughtful Thursday’ where I just put down what is on my mind seems to generate more views lately. Trying to figure out different things that I can do besides the routine.
4. Honestly I too only follow a handful of blogs regularly (and mostly those that comment on my blog). When I do see a post that interests me, I try to read the whole post (not just the email intro) and comment as often as I can.
I am wracking my brain trying to figure out how to make my blog stand out as exciting and follow-worthy! Wish me luck!

My daughter is getting ready to turn 9, so I can completely relate. School, soccer, YMCA stuff, she is always busy with something, which means I am too. 😛
Thank you so much for your responses! And good luck working on your blog. Hey, if you discover the secret, be sure to let me know LOL!
Here you go:
1. Usually once a day but not always at weekends, I usually have one day off from not posting at all. Sometimes in the week (when I’m bored at work) I’ll post twice in a day but not very often.
2. I usually schedule posts to go out in the morning but I like to mix it up sometimes to see if I get more traffic. I haven’t noticed much difference to be honest.
3. I do book reviews, upcoming releases, giveaways and my weekly memes. I also do random rants usually book or movie adaptation- related. . A lot.
4. There is probably about 5 that I will read every post I see, but the rest on my reader I’ll just read if I like the topic/look of the book…I do the same as you with people who comment a lot too.
Hope that helps in some way 🙂
That does help, a lot actually. I wondered if posting at a different time of day would increase or decrease the readership. Nice to know that it doesn’t really make a big difference, at least in your experience. I just get really worked up about it – if I can’t get a blog post out before I leave for work in the morning, I give it up as a lost cause. Silly, I know, but what can you do? We all have little quirks, I guess. 🙂
Quirks are good! I’m lucky in that I have an office job in which I can sometimes spare some time to write/edit posts. I’d definitely struggle to find the time to maintain the blog if I didn’t. I don’t know how some people manage it!
1. I post whenever I feel like it… especially lately. I like to post books as I read them (right now I am behind) that is why I like things like top ten tuesday so i have content with more consistent timing.
2. I post whenever I can. There are peak times for posting to social media but I don’t think it is as crucial with the actual post. I am leaning away from mornings because I know my feed floods first thing in the morning and I’m more likely to spend time reading things that come later in the day.
3. I do some memes. Book posts. I’ve played with video game and movie related posts. I post about life sometimes too. I want to do more posts that show myself.
4. I follow a lot of blogs… more than I should. I try to weed it down but then I end up adding more. I use feedly or I wouldn’t be able to follow anybody!
Thanks for these. I’m still working out what all I’m trying to do. Story of my life. 🙂
Love your website, by the way!
