Teasers & Top Tens – 6/23/20

tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir.

Curse this world for what it does to the mothers, for what it does to the daughters. Curse it for making us strong through loss and pain, our hearts torn from our chests again and again. Curse it for forcing us to endure.

TTT-NEW

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:

Top Ten Tuesday Turns 10!

Since Top Ten Tuesday is turning 10 years old, the topic for this week is simple: go back and redo a previous Top Ten Tuesday topic and celebrate this fun tradition. I decided to go and see what I did last year around this time, which was . . . .

Top Ten Books on my Summer TBR

I don’t make TBRs that much anymore now that I stopped doing blog tours (although I’ve been thinking about signing up for those again). Here’s the next six books I currently have planned:

  1. The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman – I’m working on re-reads, and since I’m currently reading The Golden Compass, this is a no-brainer.
  2. The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman – The third book in this series, so of course it’s coming next.
  3. Forever the Night by Norah Wilson and Heather Doherty – I am getting ready to start the third book in this series, but I’m most looking forward to reading this one. It’s the fourth and final book and I never got to read it the first time around.
  4. The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter – I found this book on a GoodReads list of Black fantasy authors. I had never heard of this author or this series, but it sounds amazing. I’ve requested it from my library and will read it as soon as it comes in (or I might just buy a copy if I get impatient).
  5. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth E. Wein – Once I get caught up on a few other things, I plan on getting back to the #StartOnYourShelfathon with The Quiet Pond. This is the next book on my TBR for that.
  6. The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin – Some of you know that each year, I make a special reading list for my husband in order to help him read more and introduce him to new books and authors. This time, he has a book to recommend to me. This author went to the same college he did and they are in an alumni Facebook group together.

That’s it for me today! Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

  3. I liked CODE NAME VERITY when I read it. It’s been a while, though, so I can’t really remember what it’s about anymore. Gah! My memory stinks. I hope you enjoy it and all the other books on your list.

    Happy TTT!
