WWW Wednesday – 6/24/20

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

What did you recently finish reading?

Guess who’s finally making some progress! This girl! I finished two books this week! It doesn’t sound like much, and it’s definitely a far cry from what I’ve done in the past, but I don’t care. I feel good! I finished A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir, the third book in the Ember in the Ashes series. I need book four now! I believe it comes out in December, but that is so far away! (Side note: December is not that far away, especially with how fast 2020 has been flying by.) In any case, I am hoping to get the review up for that one tomorrow, just as soon as I can put my thoughts together. I also finished Enter the Night by Norah Wilson and Heather Doherty, the second book in the Casters series. I had forgotten that this book ended on quite a cliffhanger. Good thing I can go right on to the next one!

Also, I joked in my last WWW post that I was going to make a reading schedule in order to stay focused and get more reading done. I used to do this with the ARCs I got from NetGalley or for blog tours. It might sound silly, but it works! It’s getting me reading again and making me feel good about my progress each day. Sometimes it’s the little, simple things that make all the difference.

What are you currently reading?

Quite a bit, actually. I immediately jumped into Embrace the Night by Norah Wilson and Heather Doherty, book three of the Casters series. I am also still reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and it is probably one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Seriously. Since I’m reading it with a book club on GoodReads (shout out to the Immortal Bibliophiles!), I know that I will finish it on or around June 25th, so look for that review next week. I am also still reading The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, although I slowed down a bit on that one since I was trying to finish the other two books I was reading at the time. It’s also taking a bit longer since I am reading along with Mark Reads – essentially I am stopping to read a blog post after every chapter, so it takes a while. Totally worth it though – Mark is awesome! A surprise read for me this week is The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin. This was a book that my husband recommended to me – I mentioned it on my Top Ten Tuesday post yesterday. It’s also a MG book and I don’t read very many of those. It’s really good so far.

Also, of course, I am still reading Legend by Marie Lu but, like the Harry Potter books, I probably won’t keep mentioning it on WWW since you see me post about it every week anyway.

What do you think you’ll read next?

As I said last WWW, I definitely plan to continue the His Dark Materials trilogy with The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. Can’t just stop with book one! I will also read Forever the Night by Norah Wilson and Heather Doherty, the fourth and final book in the Casters series and the only one I have not read yet. I can’t wait! Other than that, I have no specific plans. I need to pick something from my #StartOnYourShelfathon – I had mentioned on yesterday’s Top Ten post that I was considering Code Name Verity by Elizabeth E. Wein, so maybe I’ll jump on that one too. Or I might pick another one off of my list (you can see the full TBR on my 2020 Reading Challenges page) – there are sadly quite a few to choose from as I have made very little progress so far this year.

That’s my reading week! Please leave your WWW in comments!

  1. I agree that making a schedule can be very effective. I even write mine down in little notebooks. LOL

Enjoy your week…I am curious about Embrace the Night…and I loved The Hate U Give.

    Here’s MY WWW POST

    • Mine are all written on sticky notes attached to the inside of my iPad cover, since that’s what I typically read on.

The Casters series is really good – Embrace the Night is book #3. And I am loving The Hate U Give, although it is giving me major anxiety right now.

  2. Enjoy your reading! I also really need book four of An ember in the ashes!
I’m about to start reading Kings of the Wyld!

  3. You make me want to reread THUG now! It’s one of my all time favorites and such a powerful and brilliant story… I hope you will enjoy your books this week and happy reading. Here’s my WWW. xx
