Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:
Ten Quotes From or About Books
I don’t always save quotes from books that I read – the way my brain is working these days, I’m lucky if I remember plot points after a while. So yes, I am turning to GoodReads for help on this one. Here are some from some of my favorite authors.
1). “Ah coffee. The sweet balm by which we shall accomplish today’s tasks.” – Holly Black, Ironside
2). “If this isn’t hell, the devil is surely taking notes,” – Stuart Turton, The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
3). “We accept the love we think we deserve.” – Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
4). “Margo always loved mysteries. And in everything that came afterward, I could never stop thinking that maybe she loved mysteries so much that she became one.” – John Green, Paper Towns
5). “You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” – Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games
6). ” … a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.” – George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
7). “I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
8). “Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read.” – Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Princess
9). “I’ve looked at the world for quite a few years now and I’ve found that if I don’t laugh, I’ll probably end up crying.” – David Eddings, Demon Lord of Karanda
10). “I decided to deflect her attitude by giving a long, Southern answer. I come from people who know how to draw things out. Annoy a Southerner, and we will drain away the moments of your life with our slow, detailed replies until you are nothing but a husk of your former self and that much closer to death.” – Maureen Johnson, The Name of the Star

Honestly, I did the same thing.
There’s just so many good quotes from so many good books to chose from! It’s overwhelming!
this one caused an internal gasp: “You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” – Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games 💚💔
my list of quotes: https://top100booksreviews.wordpress.com/2026/02/24/top-10-tuesday-to-quote/
It’s such an evocative sentence, and so heartbreaking. Collins does that a lot.
The quote from Paper Towns is a wonderful description of character.
Thanks for sharing your #TTT
Isn’t it! Paper Towns is my favorite John Green book and I just love that description so much.
Oh this is a good way to go about finding quotes if you’re not great at keeping track of them (like me)! That quote about the devil taking notes definitely hits hard these days.
Absolutely. And GoodReads is nice because you can just type in one of your favorite authors and it will pull up a whole bunch of stuff, including random things that I had forgotten about, but really loved.
Love your variety!
Thanks!
