Teasers & Top Tens – March 11, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer.

“Don’t yield to her,” I whisper. “Don’t even yield to the memory of her.”

He draws back a little, just enough so I can meet his eyes.

“Don’t yield to me either,” I say, and have to swallow past the sudden emotion in my throat. “Yield to yourself. Yield to forgiveness. Yield to happiness. Yield to this moment. It’s not hers. It’s yours. It’s mine. It’s ours.”

This book, I swear! I have about 60 pages left and I have no idea what’s going to happen. I’m so nervous!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:

Ten (or Seven) Books That Feature Road Trips

This was a bit of a freebie this week, as we could pick the particular feature for our list. I love a good road trip and I especially love reading about road trips, particularly those that come up unexpectedly. Here are some of my faves.

  1. Paper Towns by John Green: A whirlwind road trip at the end of the book to try and find the elusive Margo.
  2. Going Bovine by Libba Bray: Is this a real road trip, or is it all in Cam’s head? No real way to tell, but we’re all along for the ride.
  3. Mosquitoland by David Arnold: A road trip to find your mom and your true self. What better reason to go?
  4. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: We usually think of road trips as using cars, but horses and carts and things are just as good. Why just go on just a road trip when you can go on an adventure!
  5. 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson: There may have been a few airplanes involved, but it’s mostly on the road, so it counts.
  6. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson: A road trip across the entire United States with a stranger, all while you’re trying to grieve and figure out how your life is changing.
  7. American Gods by Neil Gaiman: Road trips with a whole cast of somewhat sinister characters, all with ambiguous loyalties. Oh, and some of them might be gods. Or trying to take over the world. Or both.

  6. Ohh what a dramatic quote 👀, your teaser book is on my TBR!The Hobbit and American Gods are the only ones I’ve read. I recently reread the Hobbit and was disappointed to discover I didn’t love it as much as I remembered. Though I do agree that travelling Hobbit Style sounds way more fun than on a highway in a car 😂 (Minus the various dangers of course 😝)Here’s my TTT for the week.

  7. Road trip novels are always entertaining. Great topic choice!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  8. I’ve only read The Hobbit from your list; The Lord of the Rings books feature some memorable road trips as well. The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong has a cozy road trip. A much bleaker and more dramatic road trip happens in Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. Thanks for the list and happy reading!
