Teasers & Top Tens – February 18, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross.

“Sometimes,” Iris began, “I don’t think we know what we’re made of until the worst moment possible happens. Then we must decide who we truly are and what is most important to us. I think we’re often surprised by what we become.”

I just finished this book and I loved it. I loved this series so much!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:

Ten Books I Never Reviewed

I thought this was an interesting topic, as I know for a while, my reviews were very hit and miss. It’s something that I’ve tried very hard to get better at doing regularly, but I know there are still several books out there that just got overlooked by the blog.

  1. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: I read this entire series back in 2023 and really enjoyed it. There were lots of twists and turns, mysteries to solve, magic powers that were hard to explain. I meant to get around to reviewing it last year, but never did.
  2. Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo: I feel like this one should have been reviewed a long time ago, but I never reviewed any of the Grisha books, despite loving them AND seeing Leigh Bardugo at YallFest for years.
  3. Tithe by Holly Black: I love Holly Black’s writing and this series was amazing. It’s about faeries and is as dark and twisted as you could ever want they fae to be.
  4. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray: With this one, I reviewed the audiobook, but never actually reviewed the actual book. Another one that I was really surprised by.
  5. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke: This is such a good (but very very very looooong) book. Mysterious and a little creepy, and never reviewed by me.
  6. The Doorknob Society by M.J. Fletcher: This is a quirky little series that I picked up on BookBub years ago. Read the whole series, never reviewed it.
  7. Devilish by Maureen Johnson: I honestly can’t believe there’s a Maureen Johnson book that I’ve read and didn’t review. I love her writing so much and this book was a lot of fun.
  8. The 100-Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson: One of my favorite book titles. This book was a rollercoaster, but I never reviewed it. I think I read it during my blog drought.
  9. Pachinko by Min Jin Lee: This was such a beautiful story and I learned a lot about Korean and Japanese history that I never knew about. I should have reviewed it, but missed it somehow.
  10. The Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long: Another book that I picked up just because of the title. It’s also about faeries and is a little twisted, but in a very good way.

  4. I haven’t been the greatest at keeping up with reviews in the last couple years. I really enjoyed the Shadow and Bone series, but I don’t think I ever reviewed them either. I loved Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I really want to read Pachinko. That’s been on my TBR for awhile now.

  5. It’s been forever since I read JONATHAN STRANGE, but I really liked it even though it’s definitely a lengthy read.

    Happy TTT!

    • It takes a while, that’s for sure, but it’s also just a really dense story, plot-wise. There’s so much to explore. I want to do a reread of it, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time any time soon.

EDIT: I checked to see about the audio book – it’s 32 hours long! Yikes!
