Teasers & Top Tens – January 28, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Apostles of Mercy by Lindsay Ellis.

Paris looked between Kaveh’s old journal and her own, marveling at the organized chaos on his pages. Her note-taking style was nothing like his, and she couldn’t help but think that if anyone was ever left with the task of decoding what her journals had meant after her untimely demise, they’d have a much less difficult time of it than she’d had with Kaveh’s. She circled the word at the top of the page:

Blackmail

This series is so damn good.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is a freebie, so in honor of the fact that it has actually snowed here for the first time in years, my topic is:

Ten New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2024

I love looking back at stuff like this because I do tend to get into a rut with both authors and genres. Here are my favorite new-to-me authors from last year, along with the books that I read.

  1. Kelly Andrew (Your Blood, My Bones)
  2. Tony Bertauski (The Annihilation of Foreverland)
  3. Moira Buffini (Songlight)
  4. Liz Coley (Pretty Girl-13)
  5. Sarah Beth Durst (The Spellshop)
  6. Matt Haig (The Midnight Library)
  7. Lauren Kate (Fallen)
  8. Yume Kitasei (The Stardust Grail)
  9. Kirsten Miller (The Change)
  10. Katherine St. John (The Vicious Circle)

  3. I’ve heard good things about The Midnight Library.

  4. I’ve read THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY, but that’s it from your list. I’m glad you found some great new authors to enjoy in 2024!

Oh, I used to watch Lindsay Ellis on Youtube i’m happy to hear the series is good! 🙂 Yume Kitasei is an author I really want to try! I also combined TTT with Teaser Tuesday this week 🙂

    • My husband and I have watched her since her Nostalgia Chick days. I was so happy for her that she got to publish her books – and there’s more to come, apparently! Yume Kitasei’s book was really good, but very dense sci-fi.

I’m happy for her too that her books seem to be doing well 🙂 I do like Sci-fi but it’s good to know it’s dense so I can be in the right head space , thanks!
