Teasers & Top Tens – January 14, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Truth of the Divine by Lindsay Ellis.

“Specimens.” She nearly choked on the word. “Why, then? I know there has to be more to it than that. What made him end it? What led him to kill those people?”

I’m enjoying this one even more the second time around, and can’t wait to read book 3!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is a freebie, so in honor of the fact that it has actually snowed here for the first time in years, my topic is:

Ten (or Five) Bookish Goals for 2025

I’ve gone over some of this when I posted my 2025 reading goals, but here they are again, plus a couple more.

  1. I want to read 75 books this year.
  2. I want to diversify my reading a bit. The way I’m choosing to do this is by reading all of the winners from the 2024 GoodReads Awards.
  3. I want to work on completing series where I’ve only read one or two books.
  4. I want to attend book club at least nine times this year (we meet once a month, and I already know I won’t be able to go to a few of the meetings due to travel).
  5. This one is the most important. I want to try to relax and make more time for reading. I spend way too much time doomscrolling on my phone and I know that isn’t doing my brain any favors.

Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

  1. Diversifying your reading list is a great goal!

    • It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut and just never leave your favorite genre. That’s why I’ve been really appreciative of the book club I’ve joined. So far, none of the books they’ve read would be something I would naturally gravitate towards and I’ve enjoyed (almost) all of them.

  2. Completing series is such a fantastic goal!! I need to do that too. haha. I have so many series where I only have one book left.

    • It used to be much worse. I had a list that was really, really long. I eventually pared down the list a bit – there were a few series that I didn’t have any interest in continuing, I was just being stubborn. I’m trying to be better about it, but it’s hard when there’s something new and shiny that catches my attention.

      • I know what you mean. I do need to go through and look at series that I no longer want to read. I usually do it in December, but haven’t gotten to it yet. I am glad you have been able to pare it down some. It makes things much less overwhelming!

  3. I need to do less scrolling on social media – it’s such a time suck! Reading is a much better use of my time. Good luck with all your goals.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  4. I definitely need to go back and find series I never finished. There are probably more than a few. 😅 Good luck with these!
