Teasers & Top Tens – January 7, 2025

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green.

You will always struggle with not feeling productive until you accept that your own joy can be something you produce. It is not the only thing you will make, nor should it be, but it is something valuable and beautiful.

I love this quote so much. It’s something to remember.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is a freebie, so in honor of the fact that it has actually snowed here for the first time in years, my topic is:

Ten Most Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2025

Now, y’all know that I don’t really pay a lot of attention to release dates or hype. There are a few books that I am anticipating next this year and for the rest, I am turning to GoodReads

  1. The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah – April 15th: I have been waiting for this ever since reading The Stardust Thief, which was such an amazing debut. This is her second book, the second of a planned trilogy, so I am definitely looking forward to it.
  2. The Lord of Demons by Evan Winter – May 8th: I’m including this one even though I don’t think that date is set in stone yet. GoodReads lists this as the expected date, but we don’t even have cover art yet. Whatever. I’m going to be optimistic and list it for this year. This is the third book in the Burning series, which is already so good! I need more!
  3. Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros – January 21st: I 100% absolutely KNOW that I won’t be the only one to include this on their lists. For anyone not in the know, this is the highly anticipated third book in the Empyrean series (a.k.a. the Fourth Wing series) and I know several people, both online and IRL that are so excited about this, me included.
  4. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins – March 18th: I completely forgot that this one was happening! Another Hunger Games prequel, this one tells the story of the Games where Haymitch was a tribute. I have so many questions that I want answered!
  5. Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao – January 16th: This is one that I found on GoodReads that is coming out very soon! It tells the story of a magic pawnshop in Tokyo, which sounds so fun! I’ve never read anything by the author, but this definitely catches my interest.
  6. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab – June 10th: I’ve never read anything by Schwab, although I’ve seen her name many, many times on various lists. What intrigues me about this one is that the blurb is only three sentences. The tags on its GoodReads page list that it’s fantasy with vampires and some LGBTQ themes. Color me curious!
  7. Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan – January 7th: This one is out today! Happy Release Day, Immortal! You all know that I absolutely fell in love with Tan’s writing in Daughter of the Moon Goddess. This is a stand alone fantasy novel set in the same world. Not a sequel or anything connected like that, at least I don’t think it is. Still, I would love to visit that world again!
  8. Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid – June 3rd: I’ve wanted to read more of Reid’s books ever since Daisy Jones and this one sounds really interesting. Plus, there’s a giveaway on GoodReads right now!
  9. The Floating World by Axie Oh – April 29th: I read a book by Oh a couple years ago, XOXO, which was a sweet contemporary little romance. This book sounds totally different, a “romantic fantasy reimagining the Korean legend of Celestial Maidens.” That sounds so cool!
  10. Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix – January 14th: I was immediately drawn to this one based on the title alone. It’s listed as a horror/thriller and some of the themes may need trigger warnings as it looks like it deals with some pretty heavy subjects (teen pregnancy, abuse, body horror, a few others). Still, it sounds like a pretty gripping story.

  1. I’m excited for Witchcrat for Wayward Girls!

  2. I have my fingers crossed that The Ashfire King actually happens this year. I’ve been waiting forever for it too!

  3. you have a lot of books on this list, i would read too. but I have to get my hands on a copy of the fourth wing and see what all the excitement is about.

    Top Ten Most Anticipated Books

    • It’s one of those books that I really enjoyed and thought was good, but didn’t necessarily live up to the amount of hype surrounding it. Definitely wasn’t a bad read, but with how much people were talking about it, I expected it to be earth shattering and it just . . . wasn’t? I would still recommend reading it though, if only to know what everyone’s talking about. That’s the main reason I read it lol.

  4. Is The Lord of Demons really coming out this spring?! Don’t get me wrong, I added the book to my 2025 list, but I couldn’t find an actual date!

    • Goodreads has it with an expected publish date of 5/8/25, however they don’t have the cover art up for it, which I would think the should if we’re only four months out. I don’t think Winter has posted anything official either. It’s probably not coming out this year, but I kept it on my list just for wishful thinking.
