Teasers & Top Tens – July 2, 2024

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser is from The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei.

The largest private collection of rare artifacts from other worlds could be found in central New Jersey at Princeton University, and if anyone knew Maya Hoshimoto was a thief, they wouldn’t have let her anywhere near there.

Fortunately, no one did.

This book is coming a bit out of left field. I decided to go back to Fable and read their July book club pick, which was this one. I’ve never heard of it and know nothing about it or this author, except that this is a sci fi novel, which I don’t read a lot of. I’m excited to dig in!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:

Ten Books with My Favorite Color on the Cover

There’s a slight problem with this one, and that’s the fact that I don’t really have a favorite color anymore. I used to really like red, then purple, then black, now more of a green. So instead of picking one color, I’m going to give you all of them. Here are my favorite covers with certain colors as the prominent or dominant color. Starting with:

1. White – 1984 by George Orwell: This is the cover of my copy of 1984 and I absolutely love it. That stark white cover with the enormous eye of Big Brother watching – so evocative.

2. Pink – The Grace Year by Kim Liggett: I think it’s no surprise that this one is on my list. You know how much I love this book and the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

3. Red – Fire by Kristen Cashore: The Graceling series had such beautiful covers and this second book is no exception.

4. Orange – Turtles All the Way Down by John Green: While this isn’t my favorite of John Green’s books, I do absolutely love the cover.

5. Yellow – Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh: This is one of those comics that just helps you make sense of your life. I still maintain that no one has ever described what depression feels like better that Allie and her drawings.

6. Green – Linger by Maggie Stiefvater: The covers for this series are so pretty with their monochrome silhouettes. The thing I really like is that in my copies, the text on the inside of the book is the same color as the color of the cover. So my copy of Linger also had green text on the inside. That’s color committment.

7. Blue – Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: The brilliant conclusion to one of my favorite series of all time. This makes me want to read it again, even though I just did a reread not that long ago. This cover is so iconic.

8. Purple – Stain by A.G. Howard: Ugh, she always has the most beautiful covers! I’m a big fan of her Splintered series, which is an Alice in Wonderland retelling, but this one is also really beautiful, a retelling of The Princess and the Pea. And that cover . . . stunning.

9. Black – The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: I’m not going to ramble on and on about how much I love this book, because I have certainly done that before and can do that at length. So instead, let’s just admire this pretty cover.

10. Gray – Pawn by Aimee Carter: I couldn’t decide whether to do gray or brown for the last color, but as I was looking through GoodReads, most of what they were calling “brown” was really just darker orange. Besides, this book and series is amazing. It was one of the first ones I read when I went down my dystopian rabbit hole several years ago.

  1. What a topsy-turvy tease! Love the cover on “linger”. Almost meditative.

  2. You’re the only person this week I’ve seen pick white so far! 🙂

  3. I’ve been surprised at how many bloggers say they don’t have a favorite color or that their favorite changes all the time. I thought everyone had a favorite! So interesting.

    Happy TTT!
