In January, I listened to four more audio books, each rereads that I was very excited to revisit in a new way.

The Grace Year
Author: Kim Liggett
Narrator: Emily Shaffer
Original review can be found here.
I was definitely looking forward to this one and thoroughly enjoyed every word of it. Emily Shaffer was such a perfect choice for this narration. She had a delivery that was hardened and full of gravitas, but still young and innocent. You never underestimated the seriousness of the situation and she brought Tierney to life so vividly. It was wonderful.

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
Author: Stuart Turton
Narrator: James Cameron Stewart
Original review can be found here.
I’ll admit, I had wanted to reread this book pretty much as soon as I finished it last year, but I was a bit nervous to read this one in audiobook form. With all the intertwined characters and wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff going on, I was afraid that it would be hard to follow without seeing the words on the page to help keep me grounded. I shouldn’t have worried. This version was just as good as the original and I definitely enjoyed the story even more the second time around. James Cameron Stewart did a very good job and had a very pleasant voice to listen to.

Lock Every Door
Author: Riley Sager
Narrator: Dylan Moore
Original review can be found here.
This was yet another book that I really enjoyed when I first read it and was very curious to see how well I liked it as an audiobook. It had the same feeling for me as The Grace Year did, so I guess I really like audiobooks that are thrillers (not that The Grace Year is typically classified as a thriller, but it does have some thrilling aspects to it. Dylan Moore was a very good choice and, as I said about Emily Shaffer, she really brought the main character to life. I felt like I got to know Jules even better this time since it truly felt like we were sitting down while she told me her story.

The Circle
Author: Dave Eggers
Narrator: Dion Graham
Original review can be found here.
This is the only audiobook that I had even a slight complaint about, and it has nothing to do with the story or the performance. I really liked Dion Graham’s storytelling. He has a very nice voice that is really pleasant to listen to and he told the story very well. The only issue I had is that the main character of this book is a woman and Graham is a very deep voiced man. The story is told in third person, so it did still work (if it had been first person, it would not have worked at all), but it didn’t feel like Mae was telling her own story. It felt like someone else was relaying Mae’s story. I still very much enjoyed it, and thought Graham did an excellent job, but I do wonder how it would have been with a female narrator to match the female main character.
