MONTH IN REVIEW: January 2024

So hard to believe that the first month of 2024 is over, but here we are! It seemed to pass really quickly, but also drag on for a while. Let’s take a look and see how reading panned out.

January Reads

  1. The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco
  2. The Grace Year by Kim Liggett
  3. The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco
  4. The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
  5. When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill
  6. Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
  7. The Last Orphans by N.W. Harris
  8. The Circle by Dave Eggers
  9. The Harvest by N.W. Harris

Nine reads for the month is pretty darn good if you ask me! I have continued to enjoy exploring audiobooks, which has lead to some pretty enjoyable rereads.

More stats:

There’s only one thing that I’m disappointed in, and that’s the fact that I didn’t read every day. More than any other reading goal, that was one that I really wanted to work on, since it is really easy for me to get discouraged and fall into a reading slump. To be far, the two gaps in reading happened when I was sick this month, so I’m not going to worry about it too much. I still feel really good about how things went.

Challenge Updates

GoodReads Challenge: My goal this year was to read 75 books in 2024, and so far I have read 9. According to GoodReads, I am three books ahead of schedule! Yay!

Complete the Series: My goal this year was to complete six of the nineteen series that I haven’t completed yet, and in January, I completed one. It feels a bit like cheating, since I had just started this series at the end of December, but it’s still an uncompleted series going into 2024, so I’m counting it – The Bone Witch series by Rin Chupeco.

Beat the Backlist: My goal this year was to read 25 books off of my owned TBR. In January, I only read one of these – The Last Orphans by N.W. Harris – so I will have to pick up the pace a bit on this one.

A to Z Challenge: In January, I added six letters to the A to Z Challenge. This one always fills up quickly at the beginning of the year, since most of my reads can be added, but I know it will slow down as the year goes on. Here are the letters and books added:

  • C: The Circle
  • G: The Grace Year
  • H: The Heart Forger
  • L: Lock Every Door
  • S: The Shadowglass
  • W: When Women Were Dragons

Blog Updates

I am so excited about this one, because I had 18 blog posts this month! Holy cow! That’s huge for me! I’m even more excited about how they broke down:

  • Challenge Updates: 1
  • Teaser/Top Ten Tuesdays: 5
  • WWW Wednesdays: 5
  • Audio Round Up: 1
  • Reviews: 6!!!

I am so excited that I was able to post six reviews last month! I did that in December as well, so I’m really hoping to keep up with this new pace as much as possible. I’m also very proud of the fact that I have reviews posted on almost all of my new January reads (except for the last two, which I will review together once I finish the series) and have started catching up on some reviews missed from last year.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

So far, 2024 seems off to a pretty good reading and blogging start. Here’s to continuing that energy into February!

  1. Reading in January- finished 2 and started 1 (Holes and Ariadne were complete while Fragile Threads of Power is still being worked on)

I wouldn’t consider it cheating if you started the series the year before (that happened to me with Harry Potter- 3 books one year and 4 books the next)
