Teasers & Top Tens – January 9, 2024

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco, book #3 in The Bone Witch trilogy.

He wore her unread letters like an amulet. They were tucked into his coat, folded carefully over his heart. Sometimes he ran an hand of where they lay hidden, reassurance that they were not figments of his imagination — that she still lived, though she had gone where his thoughts could not follow.

I’m really curious to see where this series ends up.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is . . .

Ten Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2024

These types of topics are always fun because I don’t usually follow much about trends and new releases. This makes me go take a look what’s out there and, usually, find something new and exciting to check out. Here is a list

  1. First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston (January 2, 2024): I really enjoyed the other books by Elston that I’ve read (The Rules for Disappearing), and she seems to enjoy writing books about assumed identities. This one sounds really interesting.
  2. The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins (January 9, 2024): A thrilling mystery set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which isn’t too far from my home? Definitely want to check this one out! Plus, I follow Hawkins on Twitter and she’s awesome.
  3. Tales of the Celestial Kingdom by Sue Lynn Tan (February 6, 2024): I read Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior last year and, while this is not a continuation of that story, it is a series of shorter stories set in the same world.
  4. The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah (February 20, 2024): This is the sequel to The Stardust Thief and I absolutely can’t wait to read it. I enjoyed Abdullah’s debut novel so much.
  5. Night for Day by Roselle Lim (February 20, 2024): A book by a new-to-me author that I found last year. I really enjoyed how Lim used magical realism in Natalie Tan, so I want to see how she changes it up in this one.
  6. The Encanto’s Daughter by Melissa de la Cruz (March 5, 2024): I have seen de la Cruz speak at YallFest many times but haven’t read much of her work. This fantasy is inspired by Filipino mythology, which sounds really fascinating.
  7. The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo (April 9, 2024): I haven’t read much by Bardugo, but I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy quite a bit. This sounds completely different, more of a historical fiction with a slight magical twist.
  8. When Among Crows by Veronica Roth (May 14, 2024): The only work of Roth’s that I’ve read was the Divergent series, which I liked but didn’t love. I would like to give her work another try though and this one looks very intriguing.
  9. The Last Murder and the End of the World by Stuart Turton (May 21, 2024): Another book that I know nothing about by an author I discovered last year and absolutely loved. Mystery, thriller, dystopian sci-fi – this pushes all the right buttons for me.
  10. Apostles of Mercy by Lindsay Ellis (June 4, 2024): The final book in Ellis’s Noumena trilogy, this one has been a long time coming and I cannot wait to see how all of this wraps up.
