Teasers & Top Tens – December 19, 2023

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.

One of the gifts of being a writer is that it gives you an excuse to do things, to go places and explore. Another is that writing motivates you to look closely at life, at life as it lurches by and tramps around.

I really loved this quote a lot. And according to my Kindle, so did over 5000 other people!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is . . .

Ten (or Six) Bookish Wishes

We could chose between “Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings” and this one. Since I am trying not to buy new books until I get through a bit more of my backlist (it’s hard, but I’m working on it), I decided to go with bookish wishes instead.

  1. More Shelves! I honestly don’t even know where I would put them at this point, but my current bookshelf set up runneth over. It’s a bit cluttered and messy at the moment. Would more shelves help? Or would they just get overrun as well? Only one way to find out!
  2. A Nice Library Tote. This past year I have been trying to use my local library a lot more since we have a very good one here. Since library books tend to be larger paperbacks, having a nice bookish themed tote bag would be handy.
  3. Gift Cards. As much as I don’t need any more books, I wouldn’t mind having a few gift cards from some bookstores . . . just in case one of the books just abosolutely has to come home with me.
  4. New Candles. I love burning candles when I’m reading (or any other time, honestly). It makes things feel super cozy. I try to keep my scents seasonal and usually try to have a good variety. My current scent, in case anyone is interested, is Apple Currant.
  5. Heavier Bookmarks. I had a few a while ago that were heftier than the usual paper bookmark. One of them was metal and had pretty engravings on it. I would really like to have something like that again.
  6. More Cats. Mostly kidding on this one, but I do love when my cats come in and curl up next to me while I’m reading.
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

  3. More cats??? I love it! I hope you get them.

  4. Yes for #6!! Somehow a cat (or 3!) curled up while I read makes reading better!

  5. I relate to the wanting more bookshelves! There’s never enough room for all the books I want

More shelves are always a good idea! Same with gift cards. Hopefully, you can have some of these wishes fulfilled.

  7. I cackled when I read more cats. That’s totally me but more dogs. My husband would die though. Happy holidays!
    My TTT 🙂

  8. Ooh nice teaser! That’s a new to me one but a pretty powerful teaser there!

Ooh nice wishlist too! I always look at tote bags as to how well they will work for bookish events or shopping! And a good bookmark is essential too! I like some of the plastic ones I’ve been using for years although they have now grown in size! Metal ones worry me when I read my paperbacks…but I’ll use them in a hardcover for sure!

Thanks for visiting my Tuesday post!

  9. Same! My bookshelves are stuffed to the gills with unread books. It’s definitely time to read them instead of buying more books. Good luck with that for both of us 🙂

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  10. More shelves is my biggest wish. Actually, I’d need a bigger house to get more shelves, so a bigger house is my wish. 🙂

  11. More shelves—and the place to put them—is always a good bookish wish! Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier, and best of luck reading down your backlist!
