Teasers & Top Tens – December 12, 2023

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser is from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

The open kettle was boiling fiercely. Richard watched the bubbling water, and the thick steam, and wondered what they were going to do with it. His imagination was able to provide any number of answers, most of which would have been unimaginably painful, none of which turned out to be correct.

I love how Neil Gaiman can make even a simple kettle for tea seem threatening.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is a freebie, and since this can be a difficult time of year for some of us (me included), my chosen topic is:

Ten Books On My Winter 2023-2024 TBR

I’m still working through the Reindeer Readathon, so some of these I definitely already have planned. Going into January becomes a bit less structured, especially since I am still working out what my reading goals for next year will be. But, for right now, here’s what I have:

  1. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
  2. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
  3. Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
  4. Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle
  5. Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
  6. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
  7. The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco
  8. Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco

I only have eight for right now, but that will change once I decide what to do come January. Still, I’m very much looking forward to all of these and can’t wait to dive in!

Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!
