September has come and gone and we are official in fall, y’all! I have to admit, reading-wise at least, September was a decent month. I am trying so hard to catch up to where I need to be for my year end goals and I made some fairly decent progress. Let’s jump right in, shall we?
September Reads
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
- A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
- A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
- A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
- The Night Parade by Kathryn Tanquary
- Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
- The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
- The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson
- The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson
- Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson
That’s ten books last month! Not too shabby! It was a tough task, especially since the Maas books were fairly long, but this is the pace I need to keep for the end of the year. It’s a lot, but doable.
The best part is that I managed to read every day, and if I fell slightly behind, I was able to catch up. No reading slumps here!
Challenge Updates
GoodReads Challenge: My goal for 2023 was a lofty one that I knew would be a long shot – to read 100 books this year. I am currently sitting at 70 reads, which according to GoodReads is 4 books behind, but that is also why I am trying to read 10 books per month for the rest of the year. If I can do it, then I can make it. I will not be doing this to myself next year – lessons have been learned.
Complete the Series: My goal was to finish six series on my list (you can see the list here). I actually completed this challenge back in July, but the other part of the challenge was to complete any new series that I begin this year. I did do that, with the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas and the Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson. Both of these series have future books coming out at some point, but I have read all of the ones currently published.
Beat the Backlist: My goal was to read 25 books off of my owned TBR lists (i.e., the books that I own but haven’t read yet – there’s a lot). I only added one more to this challenge with Truly Devious but this still brings my total up to 22. So I only need 3 more from that list over the next three months. Feeling pretty confident that this one will get completed by the end of the year!
A-to-Z Challenge: I only added one title to this challenge in September, but it was a good one – I completed V with The Vanishing Stair. This leaves me with five letters left: J, K, M, X and Y. I have plans for next month to complete J, K and M. Still working out what to read for X and Y, but I’ve gotten a few recommendations so this one should be complete by the end of the year as well.
Blog Updates
I’m still running hot and cold as far as blogging goes. Sometimes, it’s super easy to keep updating and other times it is a chore. I’ve been in a weird mindset lately, brought on by a lovely combination of anxiety and depression, which hasn’t helped. Here’s what I posted
- Month in Review posts: 1
- Teaser Tuesday posts: 2
- Teaser/Top Ten Tuesday combo posts: 1
- WWW Wednesday posts: 3
- Reviews: 2
- Random Stuff: 2
The random posts were the one where I showed pictures of my latest crochet project and the one asking for book recommendations. That’s still 11 total posts, which isn’t terrible, but not where I want to be either. I really need to get cracking on review postings – I’m so far behind that it almost feels pointless to try and catch up. This is also why I will NOT be setting such a lofty GoodReads goal next year.
Final thoughts: September was a pretty good month and I am hoping to carry this energy over into October. Wish me luck!
