Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser comes from Incubation by Laura DiSilverio.
“Did your parents want you to leave?”
“No.”
“Do you miss them?”
“Of course! They’re my mom and dad, my sister. I love them. They love me. They felt like they failed me. In the best of all possible worlds, parents help you become more you — they don’t mold you into someone you’re not. Good parents don’t, anyway. My parents understood that. But this isn’t the best of all possible worlds and they couldn’t do that, not without putting all of us at risk — that’s why they let me go.”
This is another book off my “Beat the Backlist” TBR and I am enjoying it so far!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:
Ten (or Five) Things Getting in the Way of Reading
There have been a few things getting in my way lately. Some mental, some physical, some just plan lack of motivation. Let’s get into it!
- Exhaustion. This is pretty self-explanatory. I’ve been really tired lately and reading does not necessarily help with that. Once you have to read a sentence multiple times before you understand it, it’s time to give up on reading for a bit.
- Work. This one isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but my increased work schedule has made me have less time for reading. It has also made me more tired than normal (see reason #1).
- Chronic Pain. I think I’ve mentioned before that I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago. It has gotten a bit worse as of late and, due to some other issues, I had to part ways with my previous doctor. Without getting into it too much, I’m basically just dealing with it day to day, which has been exacerbated slightly by reason #2, which is also contributing to reason #1. I do have a new doctor, who I will be seeing next month, so hopefully things will start to improve then.
- Crafting. On to more fun reasons for missing out on reading – I’ve started crocheting more again! I’ve shared pictures here before and will definitely do so again very soon. I’ve actually been working on something that I’m very excited about, so more on that later.
- Stardew Valley. Okay, I have to lay some of the blame here. I’ve become slightly obsessed with the video game Stardew Valley. It has become one of my go-to stress relief activities, and anyone who has played it will understand why. It’s just cozy, farmhouse vibes, all day long.
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Yeah, pain makes it hard to concentrate for sure.

The frustrating thing was having a doctor who diagnosed me and then never took my symptoms seriously. I’m hoping the new doctor will be better.
#1 has been getting to me lately. #3 does not sound like fun at all. I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with that.
It’s been going on for a while, sadly. And #3 definitely feeds into #1. A lot. Really hoping the new doctor helps.
I”m sorry you have chronic pain. That must be awful. I live with a chronic disease, but it doesn’t really cause pain, so that’s something at least. I’m glad there are things you can do to relax and get rid of stress and such. Here’s hoping your new doctor will be excellent!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Yeah it’s definitely hard to read when you’re tired and lack concentration! Work also eats up quite a bit of my reading time, though I do only work part-time, so not as much as it could.
