What did you recently finish reading?

This week, I finished The Desolations of Devil’s Acre by Ransom Riggs, the sixth and final book of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. This book is a bit of a milestone for the year. Not only does it finish off another series on my “Complete the Series” list (more on that in a minute), but it is also the 30th book that I’ve read this year. Since my goal was to read 60 books, this is the official halfway point of my reads, which I’m hitting just before the halfway point of the year. Not too shabby! I also just really enjoyed this book, and this series, so much. I’m so glad that I finally got around to reading the whole thing this year. I don’t know why it took me so long, other than the fact that I’m a bit of a slacker and a lot of a procrastinator.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Legendary by Stephanie Garber, book #2 in the Caraval trilogy. I am so very excited to get back into this series and this world, as the first book was so good. I had gotten it as a present (the first book, that is) a few years ago for as a Secret Santa gift, but it ended up just sitting on the shelf for a long time (too long, really). The second book already feels very different. Same dark and mysterious feel, but this time we get a new point of view character who we didn’t get to spend much time with in the first book. It’s been fun so far to get inside her head a bit and see what makes her tick, especially since she’s very different from the main character of the first book. She’s going to get into trouble, I just know it.

I’m also still reading Bone Magic by Yasmine Galenorn. Oh, Bone Magic. I feel so bad that I’m not reading you more. It’s not that it’s not a good book – this whole series is a lot of fun to read. It’s just that my reading time gets limited and I have to chose one book over the other to read and, well . . . Bone Magic keeps getting shafted. I’m going to try and make a concentrated effort to get back into it this week so that I can make some progress. I may not finish it, but I’m going to give it my all to do so.

Does anyone else feel as though they are hurting a book’s feeling when they ignore them like this? Or am I just weird? Both statements can be true.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY going to read Finale by Stephanie Garber. I already found it at the library and picked it up a couple days ago. Everything about this series feels like it was tailor made for me. Also, since I am making a pledge to try and finish Bone Magic, I will put out into the universe that I will be reading Harvest Hunting by Yasmine Galenorn, book #8 of the Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series. After that, I’m not really sure. I need to pick out another series from my “Complete the Series” list but I don’t know which one I want to start. Because here’s the thing, I took a look at that list a few days ago and realized that there were several series that were missing from it. Which means that now the list has 44 series that I have not completed.

Sigh. Why do I make things harder for myself?

Now, to be fair, there are two series on that list that I have checked off for the year as finishing (Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson and now Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children), and one that I have in progress (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon). This is why I need to finish the Caraval series – I really don’t need to add to my troubles anymore than I already have.

Do I overthink this stuff sometimes? Of course I do! Have you met me?
