WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!
What did you recently finish reading?
Since last week, I’ve been able to finish two books: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and Golden by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston. I was glad to finish The Hobbit because (unpopular opinion warning) I’m not a big fan of it. I enjoyed reading it for reading’s sake, but there’s a reason I usually skip it when going on a Tolkien binge. I was also really glad to finish Golden since it was the last book in the Heart of Dread series that I started at the end of last year. I’m always happy to actually finish a series in real time so it doesn’t end up on my “Complete the Series” challenge. So yay!
What are you currently reading?
I’m still reading The Rules for Breaking by Ashley Elston and man, did that get intense quick! My head is reeling from what I read yesterday. I’m also still reading Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and it is blowing my mind. There is some mystery with this house and this creepy family and I can’t figure out what it is! So glad that I’m reading along with the Nerdist Book Club on this one! I finally started a book for the “Beat the Backlist” challenge with Each of Us a Desert by Mark Oshiro. I read his debut novel, Anger is a Gift, and this new book is COMPLETELY different. It’s so beautiful and poetic and I love the world he has created. Lastly, speaking of Mark, I started reading Looking for Alaska by John Green with my Mark Reads catch up reading! He had just finished The Hobbit and I expected him to jump right into The Lord of the Rings, but he took a detour and I’m so excited! It’s been a while since I’ve had a re-read of John Green.
What do you think you’ll read next?
For “Beat the Backlist,” I might pick up Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich. This is a novelization of the hit Broadway show that I absolutely loved. Seriously, tears forever at this show. It’s so good. For “Complete the Series,” I think I am going to re-read The Bone Charmer by Breeana Shields so that I can read the second book in that series, The Bone Thief. It’s just a duology so I can knock down another series pretty quickly that way. Other than that, I’m not sure. I think Mark ends up reading Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien after he finishes Looking for Alaska, but I don’t remember. I’m going back through ten years worth of his chapter-by-chapter reviews so there’s a lot to cover.

Just read: Horse and His Boy
Currently reading: Magicians Nephew
Next read: The Last Battle
Nice progress! Do you have any idea what you might read once you finish your trip through Narnia?
Well- thinking of reading the 3rd book of Howl’s Moving Castle or To Kill a Mockingbird.
I actually am getting close to the end of Magician’s Nephew- which means one left
I can totally see that about The Hobbit. It’s been so long since I’ve read it. I am glad you are enjoying Mexican Gothic. It’s full of intrigue but creeped me out by the end. haha! Happy Reading!
My WWW!
It just got super creepy!
Yeah…it kind of stays that way! lol
Enjoy your week. I am curious about The Rules for Breaking. Thanks for sharing, and here’s MY WWW POST
It’s the sequel to The Rules for Disappearing, which was also excellent. You should definitely check it out!
So glad to hear you’re enjoying Mexican Gothic! I really need to pick that up soon, since it seems like so many people love it! I really need to read The Bone Charmer, too! I’ve heard it’s really good. Happy reading!
Here’s my WWW post.
The Bone Charmer is really good. I can’t wait to re-read it. And Mexican Gothic is really good but super dark and creepy. So be warned!
I have really been in the mood for super dark and creepy, and I have no idea why, but it sounds PERFECT!
Then you should definitely check it out. I finished it later in the week and it just kept getting creepier. In a good way.
Enjoy your reading! Glad your enjoying Mexican Gothic!
I’m currently rereading The Winter of the Witch!

It’s so good, but it just got so creepy! I’m hoping to finish it this week. Happy reading!
I have never read The Hobbit or any of the LOTR but I recently bought all four books and they are now sitting on my bookshelf which means that it is only a matter of time!
You should definitely do it! They are classics!
I’m glad to hear you are enjoying Mexican Gothic so far! I really enjoyed that one. I hope you will enjoy your books this week and happy reading! Here’s my WWW.
There was just a really big reveal and it was sooo creepy!! I don’t know how this is going to end, but I should find out soon.
I really haven’t read much Tolkien, but I have attempted to start The Hobbit at least twice. I hope to get through it; I feel the need to read it before moving on to Lord of the Rings. I’ll get to it eventually! Happy reading! 😀
You definitely should! Lord of the Rings is better than the Hobbit, and you don’t need to read the Hobbit to read LotR. It’s more of a companion story than anything else.
Great! This whole time I thought The Hobbit was a prequel to Lord of the Rings! LOL!
It sort of is, but only that it takes place before the trilogy. It gives a bit of back story to Bilbo (who isn’t in LotR all that much) and Gollum (who’s in it a bit more) but that’s really it. They can totally be read separately.
