Another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by “The Broke and the Bookish.” Now that it is officially the holiday season, it’s time to think about what really matters. Books I want for Christmas!!! Normally, I don’t ask people to buy me books for Christmas because it’s hard to say which ones I want. And I also buy so many of them on my own. But if I had to compile a list, the books below would certainly be acceptable.
Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me
1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – I have been meaning to look for this book several times, but I always forget to get it. I’ve heard lots of really good things about it.
2. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver – I read this book back in college. It’s one of those stories that really sticks with you. I’d like to read it again, but never bought a copy of my own.
3. The Red Queen by Margaret Drabble – Same as The Poisonwood Bible, really. The situation, not the story. The story is completely different. Another one I would love to add to my collection.
4. Anything about Broadway Theater – Not a specific book, but something I want regardless. I would love books about the history of Broadway. The behind the scenes stuff from shows, actors talking about their experiences. That sort of thing.
5. Anything about New York City – See previous comment about Broadway. History, interesting landmarks, stories. I love that place and want to know more about it.
6. Phantom by Susan Kay – This is one of my all time favorite books and I don’t own a copy. I used to, but it fell to pieces. Eventually, even duct tape wouldn’t hold it together again. I do have an ebook of it, but having a real book would be nice.
7. A Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray – I just realized that I have all of the Gemma Doyle trilogy except for the last one! This needs to be corrected!
8. Blackout by Mira Grant – I’ve already read Feed and just started reading Deadline with the lovely folks over at Mark Reads. This would round out the trilogy.
9. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare – But only if it’s out in trade paperback. I want it to match all the other Mortal Instruments books on my shelf.
10. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling – I haven’t even heard much about Rowling’s next book, except that it’s nothing at all like Harry Potter. That’s fine. She’s still an amazing writer and anything she does is worth reading.

Life With No Plot 
I picked up a copy of The Night Circus in October and I still haven’t read it…I should really get on that!
LOVE Phantom, it’s such a good book! My copy came with a bookmark, but I have long since lost that, sigh.
I’ve been meaning to get The Night Circus for the longest time. It just hasn’t happened. I’ve heard from several people that it’s really good.
Phantom is easily one of my all time favorite books. I don’t even know what happened to my original copy. It was in such bad shape, it probably got thrown away. 😦 I have it on my Kindle, but it’s just not the same.

I lost my copy of Firebird (by Mercedes Lackey) a long time ago, and it’s been impossible to replace, though I probably could now…but instead I’d rather get a new book instead, I guess.
I absolutely loved The Night Circus. It is definitely one of my favorite books I read this year.
And I agree! Matching books are important!
Glad to know I’m not the only one who needs all the books in a series to match. Some of my family think I’m a little strange. Well, not just for that reason. 🙂
The Night Circus is definitely on my list to read next year. Maybe I’ll get it for Christmas. *crosses fingers*

The Casual Vacancy is also on my list and like you I haven’t heard much about the book, aside from it being very very different. I hope you get it, along with all the other books listed.

Ooh I’d love to get the Night Circus. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it! The Casual Vacancy is either a book you’ll love or you’ll hate. If you like social commentary, gritty subjects and lots of in depth characters I think you’ll like it. Great list! Hope you get them all 🙂

See, that’s why I’m so intrigued by The Casual Vacancy. Several people have told me similar things about it. I’m really curious to see how J.K. Rowling writes when she’s not writing Harry Potter.

I love behind the scenes stuff too. Have you seen the one for Wicked? It is really fascinating.
I haven’t seen the one for Wicked, but I have the one for Phantom. I used to have the one for Les Mis, but it’s disappeared. Last year, my hubby got me a really nice book called At This Theater, which goes down Broadway theater by theater and tells a little bit about the shows and performers who have been there. It’s fascinating. I’d love something like that, but even more. I’m kind of a Broadway junkie. 🙂
