Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser comes from The Last Orphans by N. W. Harris.
So exhausted he feared he’d fall asleep on his feet if he didn’t keep moving, Shane made his way to the metal door through which Tracy and Aaron exited. He refused to lie down until they returned safely, wishing he’d gone with Tracy instead of Aaron. But he recalled a game last year when he’d chosen not to pass to an open receiver and ran the ball into the in-zone himself. In spite of the points Shane earned making the play, Coach scolded him for rushing the ball and not using his team. A true leader was not afraid to have faith in his team, Coach said. Shane had to trust Aaron and Tracy would be safe, and he was better off here, protecting the kids.
This is a book that I got for free from BookBub years ago. Very post-apocalyptic. Very gruesome. I’m enjoying it so far!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:
Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didn’t Get To
There were several books I wanted to get to in 2023 – a.k.a. my Beat the Backlist challenge. While I did pretty well whittling away at my backlog of a TBR, there is always room for improvement. Here are ten books that I would have liked to have read last year, but just didn’t quite make the cut.
- Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler
- Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley
- Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
- The Dysasters by P.C.Cast & Kristin Cast
- Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
- The Fires of Vengeance by Evan Winter
- Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
- The Iron Trial by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare
- The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg
- The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shephard
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

Parable of the Sower was amazing. Hope you like that one.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
I’ve wanted to read it for years, just haven’t gotten to it yet.
The Paper Magician sounds good.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s been recommended to me by a few people now. Hoping to read it this year.
Strange the Dreamer was a five star read for me! I still need to read Octavia Butler!! I hope you enjoy all of these when you get to them.
I really loved the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series, so I have high hopes for it.
I think you’ll love it then. It is so beautifully written!
Nice teaser! That’s a new to me one! I hope you’re enjoying it!
Nice picks too! A lot of new to me ones though I did read Wicked Lovely a very long time ago! It was a fun series! I still need to read The Madman’s Daughter too! Hope you enjoy all of these this year!
Thanks for visiting my TTT!
It’s been interesting so far. Definitely invested. I need to find out what the heck is going on!
I read the Holmberg book back when it came out and thought it was just okay. I’m intrigued by the one she published in 2023, though. It looks fun. I hope you enjoy all these when you get to them!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

It looks like she has several series that look really interesting. I always thought the cover of The Paper Magician looked really cool when it was recommended to me. I’ll get to reading it eventually, maybe even this year!
Oh, you can feel the emotion in that teaser! Great pick! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
