Book Blogger Hop is a weekly feature hosted by Billy at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week, a new book related question is posted and everyone can share their answers. This week’s question is:
If you could revisit one of your past reviews, what would you change and why?
This is an interesting question. I think a lot of this has to do with how I’ve changed the way I write reviews. I used to do a lot of summarizing with my reviews. Lots of people do this, I know, but it’s something I’ve tried to stop doing these days. A review isn’t for a plot summary – it’s to share how I felt about the work. Usually I break it out into how I enjoyed the main character, favorite side characters, the story world (for fantasy especially), and if there were any fun plot points (while trying to avoid giving spoilers).
So essentially, if I were to go back and rewrite a review, I would change it from primarily a summary to more of an explanation of why I liked the book, if that makes sense. Some summarization is needed, but I would try to keep it to a minimum.
Be sure to check out the other answers of this week’s Book Blogger Hop and let me know what you would change about past reviews!
