Book Blogger Hop is a weekly feature hosted by Billy at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week, a new book related question is posted and everyone can share their answers. This week’s question is:
Have you ever looked at the young adult book section in a modern bookstore and felt out of touch or old?
This is a funny question. Age ain’t nothin’ but a number, after all!
For a while, I read a lot of YA books, even in my 30s and 40s. Heck, up until a few years ago, I was regularly going to YallFest, a huge book festival dedicated to YA books and authors. When I was in my late teens and early 20s, YA was really like this. It certainly wasn’t marketed the way that it is now and there weren’t huge sections in the bookstore dedicated to it. I love the fact that it’s such a large market.
Here’s the thing, though. Just because I’m older now doesn’t mean that I don’t remember what it was like to be young, and just because something was written for a younger audience doesn’t mean that to stories can’t be rich, complex and sophisticated. I think that people who look down on YA literature are missing out on some extremely good books and some very talented authors.
So, no. I don’t feel too old or feel out of touch. Not in the least.
Be sure to check out the other answers of this week’s Book Blogger Hop and let me know how you feel about YA sections in the book store!
