But fate—and her heart—won’t allow her to stay away from Nottinghamshire for long, and together, Scarlet and Rob must stop Prince John from going through with his dark plans for England. They can not rest until he’s stopped, but will their love be enough to save them once and for all?
Review
This series was so fun. I’m so glad I decided to wrap this one up this year!
I still absolutely love Scarlet’s character. She is so brave in her resolve to stay strong for her people. She would do anything to help the people of Nottinghamshire as well as for Rob. They are perfect together in every way and, although they had to be apart for a long time, they are finally able to be together in this book! I was so happy!
Prince John is awful, I mean seriously evil. He’s like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum, thinking that he is actually the king. Literally drunk on the power he holds, while still knowing just how tenuous his hold on that power is. It makes him very wily and difficult to predict. I think my favorite character, after Scar of course, is Eleanor of Aquitaine. She is one of Scar’s few allies on the inside, able to exert some amount of control over the kingdom (or as much as a woman could, back in the day).
My only complaint: I wish we had actually gotten to see King Richard in this book. He’s been an important topic of conversation since book one and we never actually meet him. We do find out that he’s safe and will eventually come home, but still. I would have liked to see him included when John was taken down a few pegs.
If you like fantasy and fairy tale retellings, I think you would enjoy this series. It’s not a fairy tale but to me, books set in this time frame have a fairy tale feel to them. It’s definitely a different take on the Robin Hood story and a take that I really liked.
