Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser comes from Caraval by Stephanie Garber.
“No one is truly honest,” Nigel answered. “Even if we don’t lie to others, we often lie to ourselves. And the word good means different things to different people.”
This is a re-read for me and I’m enjoying dipping into this world again. Some friends of mine are doing an annotated book swap, so I’m having fun writing little notes and highlighting my favorite bits.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is . . .
Ten 2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To
The trouble is that I’ve never really followed new releases all that closely, but I did remember that Jana usually does a topic at the beginning of the year talking about the upcoming releases and what we might be looking forward to. Sure enough, back on January 9th last year, I posted a list of new releases for 2024 that I was looking forward to . . . and I’ve only read one of them. Yikes. Another one had their publish date push to this year, but that leaves eight of those ten books that I just never made it to. I’ve listed them below, along with two other books I really wanted to read that I, well, just didn’t.
- First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston (January 2, 2024): I really enjoyed the other books by Elston that I’ve read (The Rules for Disappearing), and she seems to enjoy writing books about assumed identities. This one sounds really interesting.
- The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins (January 9, 2024): A thrilling mystery set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which isn’t too far from my home? Definitely want to check this one out! Plus, I follow Hawkins on Twitter (I can’t call it X, sorry) and she’s awesome.
- Tales of the Celestial Kingdom by Sue Lynn Tan (February 6, 2024): I read Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior last year and, while this is not a continuation of that story, it is a series of shorter stories set in the same world.
- Night for Day by Roselle Lim (February 20, 2024): A book by a new-to-me author that I found a couple years ago. I really enjoyed how Lim used magical realism in Natalie Tan, so I want to see how she changes it up in this one.
- The Encanto’s Daughter by Melissa de la Cruz (March 5, 2024): I have seen de la Cruz speak at YallFest many times but haven’t read much of her work. This fantasy is inspired by Filipino mythology, which sounds really fascinating.
- The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo (April 9, 2024): I haven’t read much by Bardugo, but I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy quite a bit. This sounds completely different, more of a historical fiction with a slight magical twist.
- When Among Crows by Veronica Roth (May 14, 2024): The only work of Roth’s that I’ve read was the Divergent series, which I liked but didn’t love. I would like to give her work another try though and this one looks very intriguing.
- The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton (May 21, 2024): Another book that I know nothing about by an author I discovered a couple years ago and absolutely loved. Mystery, thriller, dystopian sci-fi – this pushes all the right buttons for me.
- Middle of the Night by Riley Sager (June 18, 2024): I just need to read more Riley Sager in general. I’ve only read one of his books (Lock Every Door) and it quickly became one of my favorites.
- All This and More by Peng Shepherd (July 9, 2024): I really enjoyed The Cartographers and this book just sounds trippy and weird. Which is right up my alley. Also getting strong Midnight Library vibes.
