Reading Challenges for 2025

New year, new challenges, and a new idea. Here’s what’s happening in 2025.

Of course, we always bring back this one, so it’s back again. The classic. Last year, I managed to reach my goal of 75 books, despite having several lackluster months. For 2025, I am going to try for the same goal again. 75 books in 2025.

I’m really excited about this one. In an effort to continue to diversify my read and try new things, I want to read all of the winners from the GoodReads Choice Awards in 2024. It’s not a huge list, just 14 books, and some of them look like they are part of series, but I think it would be fun to enjoy the books that so many other people enjoyed last year. Here is a list if you want to read along.

  • Fiction: The Wedding People by Alison Espach
  • Historical Fiction: The Women by Kristin Hannah
  • Mystery/Thriller: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
  • Romance: Funny Story by Emily Henry
  • Romantasy: House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
  • Fantasy: Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T.J. Klune
  • Science Fiction: The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley
  • Horror: You Like It Darker by Stephen King
  • Debut Novel: How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang
  • YA Fantasy: Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross
  • YA Fiction: Heartstopper: Volume 5 by Alice Oseman
  • Nonfiction: The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
  • Memoir: The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop
  • History/Biography: The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore by Evan Friss

As I mentioned before, this challenge is back once again. Hoping for some better progress this year.

For anyone who is new around here, I used to be really bad about reading the first book or two in a series and then getting distracted and not finishing it. Below is a list of series where this has happened. My goal is to complete seven of the series on this list.

  1. Noumena series by Lindsay Ellis
  2. Scarlet series by A.C. Gaughen (3 books)
  3. Cursebreakers by Brigid Kemmerer (3 books)
  4. Starbound series by Amie Kauffman & Meagan Spooner (3 books)
  5. Fallen series by Lauren Kate (5 books)
  6. The Shadow Watch series by S.A. Klopfenstein (4 books)
  7. Sevenwaters trilogy by Juliet Marillier (3 books)
  8. The Marked series by March McCarron (4 books)
  9. Angelfire series by Courtney Allison Moulton (3 books)
  10. Temeraire series by Naomi Novik (9 books)
  11. War Girls series by Tochi Onyebuchi (2 books)
  12. The Colony series by Teri Polen (2 books)
  13. Want by Cindy Pon (2 books)
  14. Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith (3 books)
  15. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (4 books)
  16. ISAN series by Mary Ting (4 books)
  17. Angels of Elysian by Olivia Wildenstein (3 books)

As always, part of the goal is also to finish any new series that I start this year, so as not to add to the problem.

And that’s it! My challenges for the year. I am super excited to jump in and have fun with these. If you are setting any challenges this year, please let me know in comments so I can cheer you on!
