Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser comes from The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst.
It wasn’t that she didn’t like people. It was only that she liked books more. They didn’t fuss or judge or mock or reject. They invited you in, fluffed up the pillows on the couch, offered you tea and toast, and shared their hearts with no expectation that you’d do anything more than absorb what they had to give.
I relate to the main character so much!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is:
Top Ten Favorite Books From Ten Series
As soon as I saw this one, I knew it was going to be hard. Narrowing down my favorite series is hard enough, but then figuring out my favorite from there? Gah! Oh well, let’s give it a go.
- City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments #5): Since I’m currently reading this one, I have been reminded how much I enjoyed it. All of this series is awesome, but this one brings the main character together with the main villain in such an intricate way.
- Deadline by Mira Grant (Newsflesh #2): I always tell people that if you don’t read much about zombies and you want a good zombie apocalypse story that isn’t a huge gore fest, this is the series for you. I picked the second book as my favorite because, holy hell, that cliffhanger. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
- The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings #3): So much of this series moves at such a slow pace (part of why I tend to appreciate the movies more), but this one moves much quicker and, as such, you can really feel the stakes at hand for what the remainder of the fellowship (R.I.P. Boromir) is going through to save Middle Earth.
- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games #2): I love how Collins took the Games and made them so completely different from the first book. The way the arena was laid out. Katniss no longer being the underdog, but the one all the tributes want to team up with. Plus there’s Finnick. I love Finnick.
- Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (Red Queen #1): This whole series was good, but I really liked how the first book set everything up. There’s so much mystery about how Mare has the power she does and watching how the elite Silvers had to maneuver around that was a lot of fun.
- Pawn by Aimee Carter (Pawn #1): This is another one where the set up was so well done. It technically takes place in America, but it’s so different from the America I know. The deception that Kitty is forced to take on makes her so resilient later on, but watching the ups and downs of that transformation is what makes this book so good.
- The Sandman, Vol. 5: A Game of You by Neil Gaiman: Throwing in so graphic novels in here. I absolutely love the Sandman series. I honestly could have picked any of these volumes, but I chose this one because two of my favorite characters are in it (Thessaly and Wanda).
- Ensnsared by A.G. Howard (Splintered #3): I could have picked any book from this series. It is one of my favorite series of all time. While there are so many bizarre and wonderful things in this series (we are in Wonderland, after all), this final book really throws everything at us. It’s so fun to read.
- The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson (Truly Devious #3): This is the big reveal of the big mystery, the book where we finally get a lot of answers. Later books in this series take place away from Ellingham Academy and they don’t work as well – the school is pretty much a character in and of itself. This was the last book in the series to take place there.
- A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle (Time Quintet #3): Going back into my childhood with this one, but these books are still so good. They really hold up, even after all these years. This one was always my favorite – there’s a talking winged unicorn, for crying out loud! How can you not love it?

City of Lost Souls is so good, but it also broke my heart
Cassandra Clare has a way of doing that, doesn’t she. 😦
I’ve added another The Hunger Games and Cassandra Clare book 🙂

I think Cassie has been on many lists this week!
Deadline sounds really good.
That whole series is amazing. Like I said, I don’t really do zombie stories, but the way this one is done really focuses on how the world would start working again, even with the zombie virus in our midst. Be warned of that ending of book 2 though. I don’t think I’ve ever been more shocked at a book in my life.
I had Newsflesh trilogy on my list too! i went with Feed.

I love the Truly Devious series! It’s so fun.
Happy TTT!
