Welcome to my first Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer! It’s a chance to share news, recap what’s happened at the blog, and talk about things coming up. Let’s go!
Weekly Wrap Up
Some of you who have been following the blog here for a while will know that I had started back up doing my Weekly Wrap Up posts, typically on Fridays. I had seen the Sunday Posts for a while but never really considered linking up with them since I don’t usually post on the weekends. I did really like the concept and the format though, so I decided to go ahead and combine my Weekly Wrap Ups with the Sunday Post and join in on the fun.
Speaking of fun, I was so excited to hang out yesterday with an old friend. She and I have been besties since middle school, but we would go for years without seeing or talking to each other. It wasn’t because of anything in particular, just that life got super busy after marriage and kiddos and we sort of grew apart. Adult friendships are really hard to maintain sometimes. We would meet up after a few years and promise that we wouldn’t wait that long again, but it inevitably would happen. We met up for lunch last month and promised that we would try to do better, maybe try to get together at least once a month, and we’ve done it for two months so far! It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve really missed her.
This week and next week have been and are going to be hectic because in five days, we are leaving for vacation! Every year, my family goes to a boardgaming convention during the last week in July. It is so much fun and, even better, is in a beautiful spot up in the Pennsylvania mountains. The weather right now is about 10 degrees cooler than where I am currently and it’s going to be sooooo nice. We’ve been going for several years now and it’s always a good time. Of course, that means that I am currently running around trying to get things ready, both at work and at home, for me to be gone. Yes, there are several to-do lists and, yes, I am actually making progress on them.

The Sunday Post is always fun to participate in. Though I really need to spend more time commenting and saying hi — the last few weeks I barely participated! XD
Hope you enjoy the vacation!
This is my first one so I’m really excited to be here. I haven’t gone around and said hello just yet, but will definitely do so later today. š
I want to go to a boardgame convention in the mountains!!! Please give us an example of a typical day in the life at one of those conventions! Since its in the mountains, are you in cabins instead of like a hotel or something? And is food included? What will they feed you? Where do you go to play the games? Are they in one big room? Is it noisy in the room? What kind of boardgames? I hope you guys win ALL the prizes! What ARE the prizes?
It’s so fun! The convention is actually held at a ski resort (obviously during the off season). The resort is a hotel and conference center, although there are some cabins and chalets that are also available to rent. We usually just have a standard hotel room. Food isn’t included unfortunately, but the resort has several restaurants on the premises and we are also bringing some of our own food. The games themselves are played throughout the conference center in various rooms – there’s a whole schedule. Some of the games do get a bit rowdy (especially the late night games that start around 11 PM). As far as the games I like, my favorites are Carcassone, Azul, Sagrada and Cascadia. There aren’t huge prizes, but if you win a tournament, you do get a nice plaque (some games have plaques for 2nd and 3rd place finishers as well). Sometimes the GM for an event will also have another small prize – I got a t-shirt one year for making it to the final table of a game called Five Tribes.
What’s also nice is that there are a lot of other activities – hiking, chair lifts, a lake with paddle boats, an alpine slide, a small bowling alley, a rock climbing wall – just in case you need a break from being inside all the time.
Their official website isn’t much (they are revamping it soon, thank goodness), but if you want more information, they are at http://boardgamers.org. We’ve been going for several years now and always have a blast.
That sounds amazing!!! Thanks for all the details!
Reconnecting with old friends is so much fun. My husband would love a boardgaming convention. How cool! ā Diana
It’s just so hard maintaining friendships when life gets busy. I tend to go into survival mode and miss out of a lot of opportunities. My friend and I are trying to make it a priority to not lose each other again.
A boardgaming convention sounds like so much fun!! Hope you have a fantastic time!
It’s so much fun. I think this is the 7th or 8th year we’ve gone?
I hope you have a fabulous vacation! Enjoy the cooler weather.
The convention is going to be fun, but I’m almost looking forward to the cooler weather more lol. It’s been brutal this summer.
It much be nice reconnecting with old friends. Once a month my library has a meet where people come together and play board game.
Have a great week.
It has been nice. We can usually only do it once a month or so, just because we have work and families and such, but we always look forward to it. š
