MONTH IN REVIEW: June 2024

This is the first month in a long time where I finally feel like a few things are back on track! June had its challenges, but it also had a whole lot of successes. Let’s discuss!

June Reads

  • Playing With Fire by C.J. Archer
  • Heart Burn by C.J. Archer
  • Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley
  • The Annihilation of Foreverland by Tony Bertauski
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
  • A Tale Dark & Grimm by Adam Gidwitz
  • City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
  • In a Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz
  • The Grimm Conclusion by Adam Gidwitz

Nine books! It’s been a minute since I’ve gotten through nine books in one month! But that’s not the part I’m most excited about.

I have read every day this month, with the exception of the 30th because I didn’t want to start something new until July started. With the way my reading slumps have gone this year, it has been challenging to be able to do this consistently. I gotta tell ya, it feels good!

Challenge Updates

GoodReads Challenge: My goal was to read 75 books this year. As of the end of June, I am officially at 38. Halfway through the year, halfway through the goal! I think GoodReads says that technically, I’m one book ahead, which is nice to see after being several books behind for so long!

Complete the Series: My goal this year was to complete six of the nineteen series that I haven’t completed yet. In June, I did complete another one with the Grimm series by Adam Gidwitz. I had only read the first book previously. This brings my total up to three series on my list completed, so I’m halfway done with this one as well!

Beat the Backlist: My goal this year was to read 25 books off of my owned TBR. I made slight progress on this one with Pretty Girl-13 and The Annihilation of Foreverland, but that only brings my total for this one up to six books. Of my challenges, this is the one that I feel like I’ve been neglecting the most. Hoping to focus on this one a bit more in July maybe.

A-to-Z Challenge: I added three letters to this challenge in June – A: The Annihilation of Foreverland; I: In a Glass Grimmly; and T: A Tale Dark & Grimm. I still have ten letters left to fill (F, J, K, O, R, U, V, X, Y, Z), but plenty of time to do it. I’m hoping that some of my other reads for other challenges will fill in some of these. I also still have a couple of tricky letters left, but I’m not going to worry too much about it until it gets later in the year.

Blog Updates

In June, I wrote 21 posts.

No, go back. Read that again. 21 POSTS!

Actually, that’s not quite accurate. I’ve posted 21 posts, but I’ve actually written 25. I have some posts already scheduled to go the beginning of July, so they’ve been written and are ready to go, but you haven’t seen them yet.

I’m kind of shocked that I was able to do this. This has been the type of consistency that I’ve wanted for a long time, but really lacked the motivation and the organization to do so. I think I finally have a really good system, but the proof of that will be in how I can keep up with it going forward. That isn’t the only thing I’m excited about though. For that, let’s take a look at the post breakdown:

  • Month in Review posts: 1
  • Teaser/Top Ten Tuesday combo posts: 4
  • WWW Wednesday posts: 4
  • Weekly Wrap Up posts: 4
  • Reviews: 8 !!!!!!

You read that correctly. It’s not a typo. Eight reviews. EIGHT!! I AM SO PROUD OF THAT!! And I have a few already written and ready for July! I think I’ve finally found a good way of keeping up with them, something I have never been able to do before. I think bringing back the Weekly Wrap Ups on Fridays is also very helpful to me, just to have a small space to talk about life, the ups and the downs, in the midst of everything else. I’m really hoping to be able to keep up this momentum.

Overall, June was a very good month. Not without its challenges, but I feel very good with how things have gone. Hopefully this energy will keep going through to July!
