Blurb: Rory and her friends are reeling from a series of sudden and tragic events. While racked with grief, Rory tries to determine if she acted in time to save a member of the squad. If she did, how do you find a ghost? Also, Rory’s classmate Charlotte has been kidnapped by Jane and her nefarious organization. Evidence is uncovered of a forty-year-old cult, ten missing teenagers, and a likely mass murder. Everything indicates that Charlotte’s in danger, and it seems that something much bigger and much more terrible is coming.
Time is running out as Rory fights to find her friends and the ghost squad struggles to stop Jane from unleashing her spectral nightmare on the entire city. In the process, they’ll discover the existence of an organization that underpins London itself – and Rory will learn that someone she trusts has been keeping a tremendous secret.
In this exhilarating third installment to her New York Times bestselling series, Maureen Johnson brings the sinister streets of London to life with her signature wit and page-turning suspense.
Review
You guys know how much I love Maureen Johnson. She is probably one of my favorite and one of my most read authors. I really enjoyed the first two books of this series and this third installment did not disappoint.
As always . . .
** SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THIS SERIES **
It’s always a problem with reviewing series one book at a time, but I feel bad if I don’t put a spoiler warning up, just in case.
I still love Rory so much. She has gone through so much, from almost being killed to being kidnapped, not to mention the ghost stuff happening everywhere and the strange power she now has. She has really grown over this series and I love watching her come into her own. This book also introduces a few more characters through Jane’s backstory, Sid and Sadie, and they are terrifying. Complete sociopaths who may not be as dead as they originally seemed.
Speaking of people not being fully dead, we still don’t completely know what’s up with Stephen. He’s not a ghost, or at least they can’t find him. And by the end of the book, he may not be totally dead either.
This book has secret societies, cults, murders, brainwashing – all of this and more at a breathtaking pace. I love how London continues to be such an amazing backdrop to this story. Of course there are a lot of ghostly, creepy things in London! Why wouldn’t there be!
This book ended on a CLIFFHANGER and I am so sad that there is no sign of a book 4 yet. I could find where Maureen said she wanted to write or release another book in this series, but alas, nothing yet and it’s been almost 10 years. That’s sad. I want to know what happens!
