Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s teaser is from Heart Burn by C.J. Archer, book #3 in the 1st Freak House trilogy.
What young lady didn’t love to attend balls? Particularly ones held in the glittering London residence of a nobleman?
This girl, that’s who.
This series has been really fun to read so far. Can’t wait to see how it finishes up!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:
Ten Books I Had VERY Strong Emotions About
The prompt specified that it could be any emotion – happy, sad, angry, you name it. Here are some books that prompted all the feelings.
- Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare: A lot of Cassie’s work does this to me, but this book left me so sad and heartbroken. The whole trilogy is brilliant but this final book . . . ugh. Let me cry in the corner please.
- Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes: This one is a classic and for a very good reason. It will absolutely gut you. I remember speed reading through the last third of the book with my heart in my throat the whole time. If you know, you know.
- The Magicians by Lev Grossman: This book makes me so angry. It’s one of my least favorite books of all time because of it’s horrible protagonist and the shameless ripping off of other better books.
- Feed by MIra Grant: I don’t know if I’ve ever felt more scared reading a book than I did with this one, particularly the last few chapters. It’s to be expected in a book about zombies, I guess, but boy, was I terrified.
- Enchanter’s End Game by David Eddings: I need some positive emotions on this list! After listening to the audio book for this one recently, I have to give it it’s due for being such a satisfying ending to an epic series. It makes me so happy.
- Looking for Alaska by John Green: Completely and utterly heartbroken. That’s how I felt reading this book. It’s not the only John Green book to do this to me, but this one hurts the most.
- Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim: I think I was smiling the entire time I read this book. It was just so uplifting and sweet.
- The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak: All the tears, forever. I knew what I was getting into, reading a book about the Holocaust, but I still wasn’t prepared.
- Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson: Does feeling validated count as an emotion? Jenny’s books make me feel seen in a way few other authors can. I just feel a sense of comfort from her writing, because I feel like she gets it.
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: Anger mixed with pure and utter anguish. This is a work of fiction and yet this same story plays out so many times. Knowing how real it is only made the feelings worse.
It seems like I really only remember the negative emotions – I need to read some happier books!
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

Thanks for reminding me to get caught up on the Feed books. Great list!
They’re so good, aren’t they!
I definitely agree with Furiously Happy and The Hate U Give. I like Mira Grant a lot too. Into the Drowning Deep was very scary. Great list!
If you haven’t read Feed yet, give it a read. I thought it was going to be a straightforward zombie story, but it was so much more than that.
I keep seeing a bunch of C.J. Archer books I want to try, that’s a fun little teaser. I like the voice of the character, a bit sassy haha.
I recently started a re-read of The Infernal Devices and I’m not ready to get my heart broken again!!
She is a little sassy! I’ve been enjoying her so far.
Ugh, I loved The Infernal Devices, but it was just so . . . tear my heart out and stomp on it, why don’t you, Cassie! Seriously!
I’m glad & hahaha so true and yet we come back to it willingly, there’s some kind of magic in there 😛 ! lol
