MONTH IN REVIEW: May 2024

2024 is continuing to kick my butt, but at least I got a bit of reading done this month. In fact, I got a bit more done than I did in April. Huzzah!

May Reads

  • The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
  • The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson
  • The Dysasters by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
  • Enchanter’s End Game by David Eddings
  • The Wrong Girl by C.J. Archer

Five books is better than four! At least there’s a little bit of progress!

There are still quite a few days where I don’t read or barely read, which is something that I want to work on. I’ve also noticed that I’m gravitating towards shorter books, mostly because my attention span can’t handle some of the monster books I’ve read in the past. Still not entirely sure what’s going on with me – anxiety and depression for sure, but I’m finally on medication again and starting to see some improvements. Hopefully that continues.

Challenge Updates

GoodReads Challenge: My goal this year was to read 75 books. I am currently sitting at 29, which according to GoodReads is two behind schedule. Honestly, that’s not as bad as I thought it was.

Complete the Series: My goal this year was to complete six of the nineteen series that I haven’t completed yet. In May, I was able to finish the Shades of London series by Maureen Johnson. As I said in the April wrap up, this series is not completed yet – there is still a hypothetical book #4 that could be written someday, but I don’t think it’s happening any time soon. I think that this series may have been abandoned, which is unfortunate because I want to know what happens next!

Beat the Backlist: My goal this year was to read 25 books off of my owned TBR. I made some progress on this one this month with The Dysasters by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast and The Wrong Girl by C.J. Archer. This brings the total up to 4 books read off my owned TBR, which doesn’t feel like much yet, but I’m glad that I’m at least chipping away at it. Every little bit helps.

A-to-Z Challenge: No letters added to this one, but to be honest, I’m not really focusing on this one right now. Just letting it happen organically. I’ll start worrying sometime towards the end of the year.

Blog Updates

Okay, one quick comment. I only wrote two posts in May, three if you count April’s recap. I wrote one Teaser Tuesday and one WWW. I have a plan, however, to get back up to speed with the blog starting in June, so hopefully you will see a lot more of me soon.

Overall, May was not a particularly good reading month, but it also wasn’t a bad one. I made some progress on goals and enjoyed the books I did read. Wish me luck in June!
