Teasers & Top Tens – January 16, 2024

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill.

Greetings, Mother —

I do not have much time. This change (this wondrous, wondrous change) is at this very moment upon me. I could not stop it if I tried. And I have no interest in trying.

These are the first sentences in the book and I’m already invested.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is . . .

Ten (or Seven) Bookish Goals for 2024

I’ve already gone over this to a certain extent with my reading challenges, but for the sake of Top Ten Tuesday, here they are again, including some other goals to help supplement them.

  1. Read 75 books this year. Fairly self-explanatory. I tried to go for 100 last year and it was too much and too stressful. 75 seems more reasonable
  2. Complete six of my unfinished series. I have a list of series that I have read the first book or two, and then for some reason, never read to the end. I’m trying to whittle that list down a bit.
  3. Read at least 25 books off of my owned TBR. I have way too many books that I own that I haven’t read, mostly ebooks that I had gotten for free years ago when I had joined BookBub. Gotta get some of them read!
  4. A to Z Challenge! I did this last year and it was super fun to try and find books that begin with each letter of the alphabet.
  5. Read for at least 30 minutes every day. I’ve already busted this one a bit because I missed some days already in January because I was sick. The main thing I need to do is try not to fall into a reading slump.
  6. Keep up to date on book reviews. I will wait for the laughter to die down – I am notoriously bad at this! But I am trying to get better.
  7. Try to diversify my reading. While a lot of my goals involve reading some of the same sorts of things I usually do (i.e. series I’ve already started, books I’ve already read, etc.), I would really like to try to also branch out a bit. New authors, new genres, stuff I wouldn’t normally pick up.
Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!

  1. Good luck with your goals! They’re good ones. 🙂

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  2. Great goals! I hope you meet them all! I definitely want to finish more of my unfinished series too!

  3. I’m in the middle of a ton of series! I should make goals to complete some of them—maybe that would help me actually do it, LOL. Good luck with all your goals.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
