I’m very excited about this one, even if it turned out nothing like I thought it would. Please meet my newest crochet project, inspired by the cover art for Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
This one was a challenge on multiple fronts. First off, I’ve never attached anything to a hoop before, but I wasn’t sure what else to do with it. I loved the pattern from the moment I saw the picture, but I didn’t realize it would get this big. I thought it would be a small hexagon that I could replicate, join together, and make another scarf with. When it started getting too big for that, I thought about making two hexagons and then attaching them together to make a purse or tote bag. Still way too big!
I may do something else with the hoop other than wrapping it in yarn – that’s the only part of this I didn’t really like. I love the colors and how the pattern turned out. Not only that, but this has led me to a new website (through Pinterest, because of course it did) that I have completely fallen in love with called Free Vintage Crochet. This website has scans and typed out patterns from old magazines – hundreds of them, with new ones added all the time. This pattern is the Sunflower Popcorn Bedspread pattern – yes, these were supposed to be granny squares (granny hexagons?) to make an heirloom bedspread. I don’t think they were supposed to be quite this big – maybe my yarn was just thicker than what the pattern intended. Still, it’s a really cool pattern and the site is amazing. I will definitely be looking for more patterns here!
My next projects in progress are not book related, but I’ll probably still post about them here, just because I enjoy sharing my work. Are there any other book covers you think I should tackle? It’s been a lot of fun looking for designs and colors to match the cover art inspiration. Please let me know if there are any others you think I should attempt!

True, I partly need to work on my WIPS
However, I used to know how to knit. I wish I could go back to it- knowing how to do to basic crafts (never got to learn more advanced crafts). Most of them were things like scarves, a winter hat, a baby blanket- that took the longest.
I learned how to crochet when I was a kid. Tried to teach myself how to knit a few years ago and had a really hard time with it. I’m sure it would get easier with practice, but I was way too impatient.
Started to knit in high school (stopped when I transferred to university)
I want to learn again- still don’t know how to fix mistakes. When I went to England, my family visited 9 and 3/4 (turns out I bought a Gryffindor Scarf, but I am not in that house- I want to make a scarf for my house, which is either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw
