WWW Wednesday – July 12, 2023

WWW Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Sam at Taking On a World of Words. Three questions, three answers. Let’s go!

What did you recently finish reading?

Again, there’s been a lot since I missed a week or two. I really need to do better about that. So since last WWW, I finished a whole series – the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem’s Eye, and Ptolemy’s Gate). That’s another one off my “Complete the Series” list, so yay! For something complete different (and slightly unexpected), my next read was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I enjoyed this one very much, as I was already a fan of her Throne of Glass series. This book is also part of my secret project that I’ve mentioned previously which will (hopefully) be revealed next month. Lastly, I read The Glow by Aubrey Hadley. This one was on my NetGalley shelf, although I don’t remember requesting it or ever getting notified that I was accepted for the ARC in the first place. It’s been there for a few years at least, since it’s been at least that long since I’ve done anything with NetGalley. Yikes. Good book though! Review coming soon.

What are you currently reading?

Currently, I have another book that befell the same NetGalley fate, except this time I do vaguely remember requesting this one – just not getting accepted. Today I started Hello, Cruel Heart by Maureen Johnson. It’s a tie-in novel for Disney’s Cruella, which I didn’t see and didn’t really have an interest in. I mostly requested this one because I love Maureen Johnson to pieces. I am also reading Beyond the Story: 10 Year Record of BTS by Myeongseok Kang et al. I am such a big fan of these boys, you have no idea – where are my fellow ARMY at! Their music and their videos have helped me through some dark times so it is really cool to see where they all came from and how they’ve grown throughout the years as artists.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next plan is to go a bit more old school classic fantasy, plus work on another series on my list. Next up: Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey. This is the first book in the Heralds of Valdemar trilogy and I have read it before, but just never finished the rest of them. There are a bunch of Valdemar books, broken into smaller trilogies and series within the world as a whole (much like the Pern books by Anne McCaffery, which I also need to work on someday). I remember enjoying this one the first time around, so I’m looking forward to reading it again and diving further into the world.

That’s it for me this week. A bit later in the day than I usually post, but things have been hectic and I just didn’t want to miss yet another week.
