Weekly Wrap-Up – January 15, 2021

Weekly Wrap-Up

Man, these past few weeks have been crazy for me! Not in a bad way, necessarily, but still. It always feels weird coming down from the high that is the holiday season, especially now that I work at a place that is very seasonal (a bakery). But on top of all that, the bakery went through a major remodel, replacing a bunch of stuff in the kitchen and store areas, and has been closed for the last three weeks. When the store is closed, there isn’t much for me to do, so I’ve had quite a bit of time off work. Not a bad thing, for sure. After the hectic Christmas rush, I appreciated the rest. The problem is that I am very much a creature of habit and I like having a schedule. It keeps me focused. Makes me feel like I have some control in this out-of-control world. So despite having time to rest, I’ve also felt very restless and off-kilter.

It has been nice having some extra time to spend with the kiddo though. We are still homeschooling, but for most of the time I was out of work, we were taking a break from school for the holiday. One of the things we started doing for fun – we created a Minecraft server! I hadn’t played in a long time so it’s been fun getting back into it again.

The bakery opens back up next week so things will slowly get back to normal again.

Around the blog, things have also been getting back to normal. I’m trying to have a more regular blog schedule again, although right now I’m posting as many reviews as possible to try and finish up the ones for my 2020 reads. I already have two books read for 2021 so far and have four more in progress, so I need to get this back log out of the way.

Speaking of reading, let’s do some reading stats for the week. I haven’t done that in a while!

Reading stats: Friday, January 8th – Thursday, January 14th

  • Golden by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston – chapters 1 to 10
  • Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – chapters 7 to 9
  • The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien – chapters 8 to 9
  • The Rules for Breaking by Ashley Elston – chapters 1 to 5

Not as much as I usually do, but steady progress. I would have read more of The Hobbit, but for some reason it keeps putting me to sleep. That sounds bad to say, but it’s true! Something about the lyrical prose and the poetry, and then I’m out. I’ve been sleeping poorly, which also hasn’t helped my ability to focus, but I’m working on that too, mostly by trying to limit my caffeine intake throughout the day. I’m addicted to diet soda, so we’ll see how that goes. My guess is that it will be a struggle.

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. There will be reviews going up here on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so be sure to check those out!

  1. My January- so far for reading read the first four Narnia books (in publication order), and now Castle in the Air.

  2. Week looking good Denise. The highs that were the holiday really leave a sense of loss when they end but that’s why they’re great because their time is limited. Anyway wishing you and your child a wonderful weekend. Lots of love.

  3. I hope you have a great week! And enjoy going back to work!
