Weekly Wrap-Up

Made it through another week. Sometimes that alone is worth celebrating.

I knew the first week back to work after taking my trip to Florida would be really hectic. There’s also some other issues, including a huge change effective on Monday. It’s not something that I had anticipated happening when I took the job, and although it may not be a bad thing, I’m still not looking forward to it.

Sorry to be vague. I don’t think any of my coworkers will ever see this, but only a handful know at the moment, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I’m not going to share stats this week, but I will say that I started a new book yesterday that has never appeared on any of my WWW posts – Bloodline by Claudia Gray. It’s a Star Wars book! I’ve never really read a Star Wars novel but I had a special reason for picking up this one. A while back, I was a big fan of a streaming service called Project Alpha. It was a collaboration between Geek & Sundry and Nerdist and had a lot of really cool programing, including a show called Alpha Book Club. It was a weekly show with three hosts – Rachel Heine, Hector Navarro, and Maude Garrett – who would discuss books, usually devoting three-five episodes per book.

When Alpha closed shop, we lost Alpha Book Club, but it has since returned, now called Nerdist Book Club. I missed the first few books they read, but found out that my library had an ebook copy of Bloodlines so I decided to check it out. It takes place before the movie The Force Awakens and so far is really interesting. It starts off with Leia in the New Republic Senate, which you never really got to see before in the movies at least, and seeing Leia the politician is a bit different from her as a rebel. I’m looking forward to seeing how this connects the dots.

I should be back tomorrow for a new Nostalgic Reads. Have a wonderful weekend!
