2016 Reading Goals – How did I do?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Oh man, that was a hoot.

goodreads-iconSo my GoodReads goal was to read between 75 and 100 books in 2016. Did I get there? Not even close. I made it to 57, which is a respectable total I suppose, just not what I originally had in mind. I usually read like crazy, but this year I had a lot of my evenings taken up. Prime reading time that wasn’t available.

Which isn’t a bad thing at all. I just need to be more realistic in my reading goals if I’m going to be more social.

So lots of good books, but also a lot of re-reads. I really want to try and read more new books this year. I’ve decided to make my GoodReads goal for 2017 only 50 books. If I feel like I am getting close to completing it, I’ll add more. But I think that is a better goal for me right now, especially since I have other things taking up my time.

* * * * * * * * *

Reading colors your lifeNext goal: Completing the Series. Oh dear. This was absolutely terrible.

I had a list of 30 series that I had read in previous years and never finished. I wanted to try and finish 10 of those, as well as finish all series that I began this year. How many did I finish?

Um, one.

  1. Dollhouse series by Anya Allyn
  2. Phedre’s Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey
  3. The Blackcoat Rebellion series by Aimee Carter
  4. The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima
  5. Hellsbane series by Paige Cuccaro
  6. Book of Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau
  7. The Rules of Disappearing series by Ashley Elston

  14. Rain Wild Chronicles by Robin Hob
  15. Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin

  27. Books of Faerie by Maggie Stiefvater
  28. Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud
  29. Between series by April Genevieve Tulcholke
  30. Program series by Suzanne Young

I started eight new series this year, but only completed two and decided not to finish one (I did give myself permission to not finish a series if I really didn’t like the first book).

  1. The Selection series by Kiera Cass – FINISHED (the main series, had no interest in reading any of the offshoots)
  2. Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson
  3. Lorien Legacies series by Pittacus Lore – FINISHED
  4. Elemental Enmity series by Christie Rich – DO NOT WISH TO FINISH
  5. The Grisha series by Leigh Bardugo
  6. The Marked series by March McCarron
  7. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
  8. Exalted series by Tara Elizabeth

Gah. So many books that I need to read!! It’s getting a bit ridiculous at this point! So now going into 2016, I have 35 series that I would like to finish. My goal will be to finish five, as well as complete any series that I begin in 2017.

So there it is. 50 books for GoodReads, five series for Complete the Series.

  1. I read The Lunar Chronicles this year too and I really enjoyed them! Don’t get bogged down by how much you read, how much you enjoy what you read is far more important 🙂 good luck for 2017!

  2. Have you considered continuing your quest via Audible.com? Since my eyes continue to fail me, I’ve become an avid fan of audios and usually finish 1 or 2 a day, depending on the length. [That’s readily achieved by listening at 3x speed which actually helps me to take in the story more comprehensively.)

    Try it! You’ll like it!!
